had my younger sister cut my hair for awhile when I was a young adult - some of the best 20 dollars I ever spent was on those cheap clippers. Several years ago she would cut my hair along with her husband and 3 boys. I had her show my teenage daughter how to do it and my wife got me a set of Oster 76 clippers a couple of years ago for Christmas. I haven't paid a barber in a couple years!
However, when we have our big camping trip every year with the extended family, it is quite a shock to all the other campers as the guys line up for haircuts and then I give straight razor shaves to myself and my two brother-in-laws...

I last visited a barber in November 2019. When COVID hit and my hair started to get out of control, I picked up a cheap Tweezerman pair of scissors for barbers and cut off the bangs and the unruly areas of the sides. It didn't look the greatest, but it didn't look that bad either. Since then, I've just been trimming these areas bit by bit as they have grown out, and it doesn't look all that bad. In the meantime, I've taken a policy of "If I can't see it, I won't cut it" which means I have a kind of ponytail in the back, or sort of like the crazy back area of the Parthenon if you know what I mean. This is what I call my "COVID haircut," and once everything goes back to normal, I will celebrate by going back to my favorite barber* and having him cut everything off.

I bought a Wahl electric clipper about two weeks into to the first UK lockdown (before the price went up). I've had what might be described as crewcut for the last 30 years. I found I could do this reasonably well standing in front of a mirror. I used to get a haircut once a month, so the cost of the clipper has been saved twice over. If things ever return to normal, I'll go back to the barber.
