Thanked: 557I have a Facebook account - it gives me a way to keep in touch with kids and relatives who are physically distant. I closed my Twitter account a long time ago as it stopped being relevant to me once I changed careers and semi-retired.
I do not accept Facebook friends very often and rapidly unfriend folks who send me stuff that is irrelevant or intrusive. Same thing for groups.
It’s useful to me, but I have experience with folks and organizations who abuse the medium. I ditch them as quickly as I am able.David

Thanked: 3228So far I have been lucky enough not to have found a need for Facebook and twitter. If I need to communicate with anyone the phone, Skype, letters or email/PM will do just fine. When dealing with people I think whoever said "They all put their pants on the same way" had it right.

Thanked: 56"social media" is a complicated topic. It is like most things that if you know what you are doing it can be a good tool. I occasionally check my family on facebook or news on my twitter, but my girlfriend...wow, she's got game. She uses twitter for news (local to global), instagram for marketing and selling, and pintrest and tumblr for...well, I don't know, but for something. But, she has the time and patience to get just what she needs out of each one. Except facebook, she quit that one.
So, to try to paint "social media" as good or bad, or even one thing or another, is at best a major oversimplification.
All that said, the original post that started this is hilarious and fits my crotchety usage pretty much to a tee.If you're wondering I'm probably being sarcastic.
