    The Book was written in 1988 by William Brinkley a good read that has nothing to do with the TV adaption which is also very good

    Even better is the One Second After books by William Forstchen they are one of the best series for the theory "We are but 9 meals away from Anarchy" highly recommend if you haven't read them..
