Pic lines are installed and used every day.
Take comfort in that even though it is a large deal to you, it is common to those doing it.
Know that it is necessary and will get you the results you need.
When things like this occur, worrying does you no good. It is actually detrimental to your health.
Sometimes you have to accept it is beyond your control but thankfully not beyond others and it will work out
    Good luck!

Oh Steve! These are the things that make us stronger. I understand your fear of the unknown and it is a scary thought. Hope that you get well soon and like all the people here, we'll be praying for a safe and uneventful recovery! God Speed my friend!

Yea, it sounds worse than it is. It's kind of like when you have a heart cath and the catheter goes from your arm into your heart just that yours stays there so they can administer meds better.

    I'm sure you'll be fine.

    A quick update.

The reason for the picc is that that no one is able ti get access for a standard IV, something makes it hard - rolling veins I think they said.

Anyway, was having kittens as you all know but had steeled myself and brought tissues to cry into.

The doctor told me to go to the nearest big hospital because they would do the picc the same day so I went to Windsor Regional, a huge hospital; an hour and a quarter away.

I arrived at 09:45, waited until 12:00 to be called, then sat on the bed untill 5:30, still no doctor and by now i was being told that the Cath Lab was closed and they would book me for Monday so i walked.

I am going to my local hospital this morning. they almost certainly wont be able to do a picc today and will have to book me a time.

They tried 9 times to give me an IV last time and I know they will want to try again today so they can try to give me the antibiotics until the picc is in, i am noy looking forward to it because it hurts a lot and they probably wont succeed, it becomes a challenge to them and they keep calling other nurses to have a go.

I'm going to grit my teeth and let them do what they want because i need those IV antibiotics but so far this has been a nightmare.

The ironic thing is, I am terrified of getting a picc done but Im really annoyed that i didn't get one yesterday or probably today, I was psyched up for it and wanted it over with. I'm not sure how long i can stay in the zone.

I have to get the antibiotics one way or the other quite early because they have to be given every 24 hours and there is no chance if the nurse coming after 5pm every day so earlier is kind of important for the ongoing IV's.

i cried on your shoulders and you wished me well so I will keep you updated and thanks for your support brothers.

Hang in there Steve. You're stronger than you think. The fact that you are.free.to talk about your fears proves it. Many men try to put on a brave face out of weakness. I believe in you brother and you know we're always here for you.

Probably no worse than having stents put in. I've got 5. All went thru my wrist to my heart. I was awake and watched it being done on the big screen.

    You'll be fine, chin up
