I don't know what sparked this, exactly, or with who it has blown up, but I would talk with the other mods and admins privately. I hope they can resolve this to the benefit of yourself and the community

I hate to be the prig here, but sometimes that is the voice of reason. I don't think there is anything good to be gained by continuing to go in the direction this thread is headed.

Don't think of it as me defending you (which it's not). Think of it as me defending the OT forum from suspension. I like OT and would hate to see it go yet again because of comments that could have been avoided. In some very small fraction of a way, I see this forum as mine and everyone else's, and I like to defend what's mine.

I too would hate to see you go as I believe we think similarly, and I always enjoy the way you phrase things!

Since I was the one to reply to your original comment, let me emphasize that I wasn't asking for you to be censored, nor was I trying to pass judgement on you. I just happened to know the acronym you used and I found it offensive.

Let me be clear, though: I am not in favor of rampant Political Correctness. I strongly believe in the rights of people to say what they want, even if it's offensive. However, I also believe that a man should voice an objection to a derogatory comment.

I've never met you GWH, so I wouldn't try to judge you based an a single phrase; too much context is lost when all of our thoughts and experiences are converted to plain text.

Regarding the "Red Injun" issue: I agree that it's an offensive term, and I'd object if anybody used it as a derogatory reference to another person. In this case, though, it's a holdover from another time, and nothing good comes from rewriting history.

Just because a product has been named with what's effectively a racist term does not make it innocent or less offensive. If there was a Boker Yellow Chink (yeh yeh, I can hear you sniggering in the back there) I'd be seriously offended. Red Injun doesn't offend me in the same way, but that's because I didn't suffer years of taunts at school at the wrong end of that term. I did get called Chink for years by English kids, and Gweilo (White Ghost) for years by Chinese kids. Those terms illicit the same reaction in me as I imagine Shaun when he reads or hears red injun.

I wouldn't have handled it like Shaun (I've yet to pm a Mod), but it's his perogative to lodge a complaint. And I think it's reasonable for him to expect the complaint to be handled properly.

I'm still sore at agreeing with Shaun.

Are you going to make Mark delete his mention of being called "Chink" just like you made me delete my mention of being called "cracker" "redneck" " honkey" "white trash" and others?

Well, in the case of the Boker, there is little we or anyone could do.
We could call it 'The Boker whose name shall not be mentioned' or 'The Boker formerly known as Red Injun' but that won't change the fact that the stamp on the razor say Red Injun.
(Btw, I didn't even know what red Injun meant until now.)

I suppose you could file it off, or post pictures only with black boxes (razor porn? get it? ) but there is little you can do about it.

I would also say that the hitler razor from some time ago offended me less than if on of our members here would use a Nazi symbol as his avatar to express his beliefs.

The razor is a historic artefact. The avatar would be an expression of support for a system that many consider evil.

I normally do not like to get involved in this type of thread, but I feel like a quote from American History X is very applicable here:

GreatWhite, I respect the fact that you are not affraid to speak your mind; however, I really don't think that anything good will come of you convincing yourself that you are the victim here or anywhere else. In my opinion the moderators are not trying to be discriminatory towards anyone or any race and I really do not think that they are deserving of your aquisations. If you keep this up then I predict that you will end up like John, which would be extremely unfortunate as it is a shame to loose valuable members. My advice would be just to move on.
