I guess if you're reading a novel, you'll create a voice for the character as well as an image of the character.

I usually have a mental picture of the characters, but I don't really think of the voices unless the dialogue is specific (like whispering, shouting, ...) And the better my mental picture of a character, the more detailed the voice in those occasions.

That's how I am. If it's any kind of story, it will be in voices that I somehow associate with a character. When I read fiction, it all plays out like a movie in my head rather than reading.
When it's just dry reading, I don't know that I hear a voice at all. I read so fast there's nothing to hear

Thanked: 346I don't think I've ever heard voices when reading, unless I'm reading aloud. I'm a speed reader so that may have something to do with it. It's tough to mentally vocalize when you're reading a page every few seconds.
