Thanked: 234We've got all this too look forward to, they're giving our cops tasers now.
They're useful, for sure, but I think the idea that 'it won't kill them anyway' is kinda ingrained with them, and people end up using them in situations that don't really require them, but are made easier because of them.
That's where the problems start, I think.

Thanked: 267Ya Know what? When an officer of the law says do something I was raised to say yes sir, and we will file the complaint later. I only hope that if I go off and get some mental thing going on that I would be helped but, it is only fair that if I am going to affect a peace officer's life, liberty or pursuit of happiness he has every right to defend him or herself.
Take Care,
Richard

You're supposed to do that during a robbery too, but many people find themselves compelled to fight back.
I don't want this to get heated though, so I'm probably just going to observe the rest of this thread. The topic of this thread is about one incident anyway, so I'm a guilty party in getting off topic.
I respect everyone's opinion. It's still a free country for now.
Let's start peace in the middle east right here, by agreeing to disagree.....plan B for that area involves buying up stock in glass companies and several nuclear devices.

My old man used to object and argue with police officers in Hong Kong if he was stopped for what he perceived as unjustifiable reasons. He'd stand there and civilly, but forcefully, argue his point. He'd only do this when an officer was clearly just using him to flex his muscles. Sometimes they'd back down and finish the confrontation civilly. And sometimes they would take umbrage at the white guy kicking up a stink. At that point the old man would take out his warrant card showing his rank (he was a superintendent in the force), take note of the officer's number, and watch as the poor guy paled and looked sickened. It was always mildly embarassing for me to watch as a child because even then I knew my father was as guilty of flexing his muscles as the officer was.
If that happened now, I doubt he'd get as far as getting his police ID out of his wallet... he'd just be tased at the first sign of obstruction.

Thanked: 1587Recent taser-related incident here in Australia too (sorry if it was brought up earlier - have not bothered to read back).
As a result, all tasers in our state will be fitted with video cameras.

After reading the article, I would have to agree with Mr. Kennedy, no one did anything to deescalate the situation. That being where wrong doing on the officers part began. For the record I am not a cop basher. I thank you X for keeping this alive, it helps all of us.
