I guess my only option is 'other.' I grew up in a Christian home, and over the years things went from oderate evangelical services to religious extremism. I'll spare the fine details, but in short, some other churches have called my mom's current place of worship a cult, the pastor's wife wrote a book so far out in left field that book stores refuse to carry it, and they priased the man who bombed the abortion clinic, saying his only wrong was to kill people when he did.

Since then, I've come out of what almost seemed like a brainwashed state, and I've recently begin exploring other philosophies. But there are, of course, certain aspects that I will never let go.

Yeah, Jedi Knight and Bushido (code of the samurai) aren't listed either, but I'll let it slide.

I like how a potential ugly topic is being handled with a large amount of respect.

I put down Atheist. I was raised a Catholic (parochial school and all that) and I'd probably still be one if it weren't for the whole "believing in God" part. I know that must sound funny, and I thought I was the only person like that, but over the years, I've met a lot of people like me. There's even a term for it; "Cultural Catholic." I was a good little Catholic all through my twenties, then in my thirties, I became an agnostic, and then finally, at about 35 or so, I just admitted to myself that I didn't believe.

I try as much as I can to respect the beliefs of others. There are a lot of people who I love and respect who are religious. There are some atheists out there who think that their non-belief is some sort of badge of intelligence. I don't think that that's too bright. I know lot's of smart believers and lot's of stupid atheists, so I tend not to judge, and I think it's wrong to try to shame people for their beliefs. I think that most of the members of this forum probably feel the same, regardless of their religion.

I agree with Kasperitis about having two "Christian" catagories. Protestant and Catholic may have been better. But hey, who am I to complain?

Darn, you beat me too saying that! I just got to thinking like an hour ago, that Jedi is recognized as a religion since it got enough followers. LOL

I would just like to point out how great this forum is that this thread has gotten this many posts, and is still just as civil as any other thread on here! I am so glad I found this place!

I have no issues admitting I am Roman Catholic. I did not however click the poll since there are many variations of Christians.

I still go to church every Sunday and its real weird some of the things they do in Japan, such as an occasion termed "Ash Wednesday" I thought I missed last week and was a bit pissed about it, but low and behold at the end of Sunday service they did the ash thing, I've never seen or heard of that before.

I have started questioning some things though, especially at Christmas last year with an event that happened back home.
There does seem to be an awful lot of hypocrisy though. But perhaps thats just one of those things that tests and strengthens our faith. IDK

I'm not religous in any way or form. I'm more of the live and let live aditude. As long as you spout your various religions in an effort to convert me, I will get along fine. Try stuffing it down my throat and we will have issues.

Needless to say a few people I know I can't even talk to as they have no clue how to let others live their lives outside of their religion.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but are you saying that "Ash Wednesday" is something new to you? Ash Wednesday is as old as the RCC, and only a little bit older than Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday). It marks the beginning of Lent.

I appologize if I misread your post.

He is saying that he never heard of ash Wednesday on a Sunday, I believe.
