My Mom is going thru her "meat makes me gag" phase so I was just curious when I saw the title of this thread. I fear I'm a meat eater.....but not pork, although I cheat sometimes with pepperoni, and sausage.....and bacon
My Mom has been a vegetarian now for a number of years but her Husband eats meat so occasionally she eats chicken or fish. Now my Dad on the other hand stopped eating red meat when he hit forty and had some issues with prostrate cancer. He is 68 yrs old with a birthday fast approaching and damn does he look good, he exercises and takes vitamins too lol....
I wish I could be so disciplined!! I do think there is something to a diet that consists mostly of vegetables, beans and rice. Annnnd since I am ALWAYS on the hunt for more recipes, does anyone have a good vegetarian main dish they would like to share ?

Big +1 on the olive oil, though avocado rock the house too. I also hate eating "fake meat". It just doesn't make sense to me when there are other, better options available. churley, if you can wait till tomorrow I'll dig through my cookbooks and find you something yummy to make!

Thanked: 0Shotwell,
You want to talk to a vegetarian who is "none sissy" talk to this guy:
www.mikemahler.com
Mike is an acquaintance of mine and, I believe, a vegan. He is an outstanding person and strong as all get out. I got the opportunity to train with him at a kettle bell workshop in London and he really impressed me.

My wife and I were vegeterians for about a year, and then we fell back into the flesh. Unfortunately we eat out a lot, and the vegetarian choices were pretty limited, but I know that isn't much of an excuse. We still try to limit our meat intake especially the types of meat we eat.
My reasons for becoming vegetarian were because of many issues:
Quality of meat especially hormone treatment and antibiotics
Treatment of animals at farms and especially at processing facilities
The amount of edibile food that it takes to raise just one cow
Lack of just good meat
Disagree with raising animals to just kill them
Lack of respect that the industry shows towards animals
Etc, etc...
Don't get me wrong. I don't disagree with people eating meat, I just disagree with how we go about it. I have a lot of respect for hunters that eat the meat and use the rest of the animal for other purposes especially when they kill that animal with respect and admiration.

Thanked: 1While in OZ last week I was excited to see the local wildlife....and eat it. Managed to get some Kangaroo at the local supermarket. SO GOOD. It's really lean, you gotta be careful and flash cook it on high heat to quickly sear the outside, and keep it rare in the middle. That with some potatoes, carrots, and broccoli you're good to go. Other interesting things I found included Emu jerky. Who knew?

Yeah, that's toooo funny. I feel the same way about people of certain religious faiths who don't eat pork but eat turkey bacon. To me, it's kind of like going to China and eating artificial dog meat because I am against against eating real dog but that fake dog meat is scrumptious! LOL
Personally, I would not be against eating dog meat - meat is meat. I may not want to eat dog entrails but I'm not hot on pork chitterlings either.

Dog meat
Dog meat is very tasty. Chinese people don't eat it much, despite the stereotype; you're much more likely to find dog meat in Korea or Vietnam, and in China along the North Korean border. In Korea, dog meat is considered important for men because it apparently contributes to virility. They generally eat it as hot pot; it's very good. To prepare for the 1988 Seoul olympics, the government went to a lot of trouble to hide restaurants serving dog meat from view, so now you have to do some searching -- but it's there. In Vietnam, dog meat is advertised in lots of places, although I haven't actually had it there.
Most Chinese people are fairly squeamish about eating dog. Actually, most Chinese people are pretty squeamish eaters in general. They mostly eat pork. People from Guangdong province (and, by extension, Hong Kong) are known in China for eating anything that moves, and it just so happens that the Chinese brought to the US in the 19th century to build the railroads were from that region, which is probably why we associate eating crazy food with Chinese people.
Really, I think it's mostly Americans that are squeamish eaters. My family is french; we eat frog, snails, horse, beef tongue, and a host of other things that most mainstream Americans would probably be uncomfortable with. I think this is a direct result of wealth. Overall, Americans have been affluent enough for a long time to avoid eating anything but the most choice cuts of meat. In the rest of the world, including in Europe, poverty forced people to make as much of their kill as possible, and so there is greater appreciation for innards, brains, blood, and the other "less desirable" pieces of an animal.
My personal weakness is for sheep's kidneys. Grilled over an open flame, with dried red pepper.
Or fresh squid.
I think vegetarianism is the right way for lots of reasons, but flesh is just too tasty.

Alright guys, we do not come into your beef jerky recipe threads and shit all over you. Please don't hijack this thread for your own fun. Start another one entitled "Why Do Vegetarian Straight Shavers Suck So Much" and have a good laugh at our expense over there.

I've been a Vegetarian for almost 4 years now. My mom's side of the family is primarily vegetarian and most of my friends are Vegetarian, I decided to try and be Vegetarian and see how long I last and I'm still going. I don't crave any meat and I find lots of variety in what I eat now.

Hello and thanks for the wonderful post! I am new to the art of straight razor shaving and was concerned about vegan products, which prompted the search (that is how I found this post); I am glad to see that there is some concern about ethical topics on this forum! To answer your question, I am vegan and have been so off and on for over 10 years, I have been vegetarian most of my life...so you can add a tally mark to your list.
Thank you,
Jay Bustamante
