Thanked: 0It's not beer if you can see through it
I think we need a beer thread. What are your favorite beers? What small craft breweries do you like? Nothing that advertises during football games is allowed - we've all had the big 3.
Recently I've been enjoying a lot of really hoppy beers. Victory Hop Devil, Troegs Hop Harvest, Chimay White. I've also been drinking a lot of Chimay Red, Yards ESA, and Philly Pale ale, and the old standby, Yeungling Lager. Unibraue in Canada also makes some great beer.
Haha wow I just realized I can drive to almost all of those breweries in under an hour....what can I say, The Philly area beer scene is killing it lately.

I'm a fan of Sam Adams. I don't watch the super bowl, so I don't know if they advertised or not. Their Oktoberfest is one of my all time favorite beers.
There was this restaurant in Colorado Springs with a micro brewery, and I can't recall the name of it. At any rate, they had a brew that was without a doubt the best beer I've ever had.

Thanked: 3I often like Hefeweizens, although I'm still getting used to the European style ones. (Edel weiss is, I believe, a good example.) A slight coppery aftertaste that takes me by surprise. Harpoon's UFO and Blue Moon are both pretty enjoyable. There's also a pretty local beer here in Boston that I love, though it's not everyone's cup of tea. Wachussett Blueberry - especially served with fresh blue berries in it - was my first true beer love. We picked up a growler straight from the brewery and it was amazing. A lot of people don't like any fruit taste to there beer at all, but I consider a very light, crisp blueberry taste, not sweet or syrupy.

I'm growing a taste for darker beers...porters and whatnot. I really like the malty dark stuff, but I still have a special place in my heart for hefeweissen.
Actually, I'll drink almost any beer, but I really know how to appreciate good beer. My favorite right now? Probably Hacker-Pschorr DunkelWeiss. Oh it's so good!

Bad Elmer's Porter from Upland brewery out of Bloomington, Indiana. I like to sit down with a half gallon off the tap from the brew house and enjoy it all night long.

Thanked: 1Anything I make is good, or course ;- )
Store Bought:
For lagers, Samuel Adams draft has a really nice hops character. The bottled is okay, but for some reason the tap stuff has a more noticible hops aroma and flavor.
For ales, I like em all. Summit pale ale is my "go to" beer when dining out.
I'll drink a pint of Guiness Stout if the place serving it knows enough to NOT serve it in a frosted mug. (It happened to me once).
You really want to sink your teeth into something new? Try some Old Foghorn Ale if you get the chance. It's made by Anchor Steam, and it's a barleywine style.
If you really want to rock your world, there is Sam Adams Tripple Bock- which you really have to develop a taste for. Very high alcohol, more like drinking a liqueur than beer. Not easy to find, and not cheap, but a little goes a long way.Last edited by Brewman; 03-05-2008 at 10:33 PM. Reason: Additional commentary
