The Access Fund
We give a small amount to The United Way when work twists our arms but my wife and I donate to "The Access Fund" which helps to keep rock climbing areas accessible to future generations. http://www.accessfund.org/

One of my sons and I both have epilepsy. So, knowing the impacts of this affliction, we tend to send most of out donations to the National Epilepsy Foundation.

Thanked: 1Operation Blessing International (www.obi.org). They help millions of people in the USA and around the world each year through disaster relief, health related causes, and kids programs. 97% of the money goes directly to the programs, which is one of the highest rated among all charities. Though they are faith-based, they do not preach to anyone. Good people.

This year we gave to The Red Cross, (as we do every year) Island Harvest, (local food bank) American Bird Conservancy, (does a better job with their money than Audubon) and The Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hampton's (local wildlife rescue). We have a tendency to switch it up every year and try to give to both local and national charities.
As an FYI http://www.charitynavigator.org/ is good website to see how well a charity handles your donated money.

Thanked: 6My number one charity in recent years has been the Major David S. Connolly foundation. Dave was one of my best friends from Law School and was killed while serving in the Army in Afghanistan just over three years ago on April 6, 2005 when the Chinook helicopter he was on crashed.
Dave was really one of kind and a great friend. I feel contributing to the foundation in his name is the least I can do to keep his memory alive.
