My dog eats, sleeps, and poops.
    Does that count for anything?

If he's clever enough to get you to feed him and clean up after him, then yeah, it counts!

    My wifes dog Kaiser.

We were haveing and early snowball fight during the first good snowfall of the year. It was a nice fun romantic little moment for me and my wife until, she loses her engagement ring. Now imagine her distress, and the houres of time we spent in the yard combing through the snow for days trying to find it. Finally about a week later I'm allowed to sleep in the house again (istarted the snowball fight) and sort of forgiven. She still misses the ring but as time passes she gets used to going without it (but doesn't let me forget).

Fast forward from November to May.

Kaiser is out in the yard to do his business during a heavy spring rainstorm.

My wife goes to call him in only to see him lying in a mud puddle in the yard. She calls, he doesn't come. She calls again he looks at her. She shouts swears threatens violence and he just won't move. Finally she gets dressed, and stomps out to grab him by the collar. He will not budge. Even after being dragged to the house he slips his collar and goes back to the spot he was lying. I was then drafted to help carry the dog into the house by my now soaking seriously dangerous wife.

As I am approaching our soon to be decesed dog I see a glint of gold between his paws there half burried in the mud. Sure enough he found her ring. Somehow he knew that it was hers and was willing to put up with a ton of abuse to see that she found it. We still don't know how after six months he could have accomplished any of this.
So does he get your spot in the bed now?Sorry couldn't help myself. That was just too tempting, great dog story though.

He does get my spot on the bed, any and every time I'm not using it. Hes even borrowed my pillow a couple of times. At least he's respectful enough to move when I walk in the room.

Well as long as he moves when you come in the room as, when it came to my ex wife and her cats (I'm allergic to cats) The cat didn't move until I removed it. Of course that may be why I have an ex wife instead of a wife, because although I was gentle I was also firm about that being my pillow not the cat's perch. That particular cat also liked sleeping on my face, I think it wanted to kill me. I have other cat stories as that particular cat declared war on me for at least 4 years.

Ah cats - don't get me started on cats. Actually, one of the neighbour's cats got into our yard once. The only thing that saved it was that it was near the fence and could jump. Looked a lot like a hare, did that cat...

Yep my dog Lucky thought cats looked a whole lot like ground squirrels. One of them actually got caught and although it survived the chase, the capture and the beating, it never came back in our yard again. Secretly I made sure she got a treat after we removed the cat from her jaws. Not that I condone that type of thing but the cat deserved it, it kept walking the top of the fenceline taunting Lucky until it nearly drove her crazy.
So I say the cat deserved it. I know I am a mean mean man when it comes to cats. Not really I just don't like them much, they have their place in a barn to keep mice down but that is really where I think they should remain.
    Just my personal humble opinion.

    Here's another smart dog, skidboot
he also had a homepage: He passed away last year, but he qualifies as one of the worlds smartest dogs.

Skidboot gets my vote. And his owner too. I've always felt you can tell a lot about a person by the way they treat their animals. That was a wonderful clip, and a wonderful example of how respect and love is earned, not taken (Actually, this entire thread is also a good example of that too) - thanks freebird. That made my day!
