54 Miles per Gallon
I'm sorry, but couldn't help myself; I just have to brag a bit about my new car. I bought a Toyota Prius a couple of weeks ago and after having driven just over a thousand miles, I'm averaging 54.4 miles per gallon. A very pleasant change from my old pick-up truck that averaged about 18 MPG.
At this rate, I figure the car will pay for itself in fuel savings over its lifetime...oh yeah, it's also fun to drive.
Cheers,
Ed

Congrats on the prius, a friend of the family has one also. I
wouldn't mind having one, but can't see ever doing away with my pickup,
Too many memories tied to it. It was purchased by my boss as a company truck, he passed away in 1990, and I was a pallbearer at his funeral, he was 36 at the time. I purchased the truck in 2001, then the Company was absorbed by our parent Co. in 2005.
Too many memories and too much work into it to let her go.....but I would like to have either a prius or a mini as a daily driver.Last edited by freebird; 05-12-2008 at 04:45 PM.

Thanked: 369I have the Honda Civic hybrid - a different system from the Prius. I've been averaging a bit less that you, ~45 MPG, but then mine is 3 years old. On individual trips I have registered as high as 50-60 MPG. Alot of it has to do with road condition and driving style.
My only concern with the hybrid is the battery pack that I know will need replacing eventually. About $3500.00! And there goes all the fuel savings...

Thanked: 4I bought a Prius last year and I get similar mileage during the summer months. Winter gas takes it down to about 45mpg, but overall I couldn't be happier.
I also got a $700 tax credit, and my company gave me $5000 as part of a Drive Clean initiative, so combined with the significant gas savings (I have a 96 miles commute three days a week), it was a complete no-brainer. The fact that it is fun to drive, surprisingly roomy, and has a lot of neat tech like a back-up cam, ipod jack, and bluetooth for my cell phone are neat bonuses as well.

Congrats in the new ride
I cannot wait to see the new innovations we will see in the Internal Combustion Engine as a result of higher gas prices. Atleast we can hope
I am sure not many people are willing pay for a large SUV that require you to stop every 5 miles for a fillup.

Viper(my fun car) 9mpg when I bought it, now around 6 after having performance packages installed 0-60 3.9.Sorry I worked to hard to long to drive around in a S***box.Higher gas prices just mean less traffic.Dont Worry, when Obama gets elected gas will be 10 cents a gallon, plus some will get their $400,000 repatation checks and well all get along after he brings us together,so no need to conserve gas . Best Regards and dont worry be happy,or is itbe happy dont worry.Gary

I understand all too well about having memories tied up in my pick-up truck. The most difficult part about buying the new ride was saying good-bye to my old Dodge. I still couldn't bring myself to trade it in...I gave it to a good friend who was in dire need of a vehicle. My only stipulation was that he had to lend it to me a couple of times a year when I had to haul manure for my garden. I did tell him I'd hose it out before returning it to him .
