During WWII he was an airplane mechanic stationed out of Victorville, CA... and he hated that. He was constantly petitioning to be sent to the front, when they asked him to re-up he was stationed on the east coast and had had one foot in a boat and one on land for about 3 months. He said "If you guarantee I'll be on a boat on my over in less than a month I'll stay." They didn't and he didn't.

He was a lifelong employee of the Los Angeles Times, and 15 years after retirement employees of the times still recognized him when he came to my plays. They all spoke well of him, he never remembered them, he just did the hiring.

It's about time!! And I must say, that is one sweet story! Actually brought tears to my eyes, but I successfully held them at bay!! Wouldn't want any one to think I'm a sissy now!
