Thanked: 1587I take exception to that comment!
Seems to me as though there's a general pattern to the off topic forum - things plod along nicely, small (or large...) scuffle breaks out, mods step in, people suddenly get a refresher course on what the rules they signed up to mean in practice, discussion of the off topic area ensues, things go back to normal.
It's probably just a natural and understandable phenomenon, and I personally think we have done well to have gone this long between fracas particularly when you think about the rapid rise of memberships since the beginning of the year. We are, in general, a confident, intelligent, strong-minded group with strongly held beliefs and opinions - heated debates are fine and natural, and the mods are there to gently direct and guide in the first instance, and directly intervene if people can't take the hint.

How come I always miss all the good stuff. I don't even know what you guys are talking about. Or, it shows that I must spend very little time in the convo area and virtually all time in the shaving/razor/hones area.
Since I have no idea what transpired, I don't think I'm qualified to enter an opinion specific to this issue. However, in general, in any forum, people will come and go. Unfortunate or fortunate depending on which side of the fence.....

Thanked: 131Until this morning I would have completely agreed with you sixgun. Several times I have been muted or deleted for speaking my mind and these days I have to be careful to edit my opinions for the sake of all your delicate ears.
However today I got alerted to an update to another thread by a member (I presume to be a new member) who simply posted something completely off-topic, pornographic, degrading and offensive. It was not pleasant to have that in my inbox and mercifully it has since been removed from the thread. So yes please i'd like mods on the threads to delete such posts, regardless of which thread. It doesnt matter which thread I go to I dont want that filth.
And if any mods or admin reading this want to get in touch to deal with it then please contact me.

Thanked: 131Not true. Whenever you are alerted of updates to the thread you are faced with the decision of reading the thread or not knowing what has been said. And if you dont want to see what has been said, then why did you join the discussion in the first place. You'd have to delete any SRP thread update alerts and stop yourself being alerted of them in the control panel if you didnt want to be made aware of them.

I completely agree with Glen and think that there is no need for this section. It's a razor forum and too many emotions cause things to explode here too often.
Also, with regard to the above quote by Bruno, I feel that this is that way things SHOULD happen but they don't. Favoritism does take place when members need reprimanding. There was a thread in which I was completely insulted in multiple posts complete with curses and all kinds of insulting behavior. I'm not naming names because I am over it, but considering the "rules" the member should have been banned immediately but wasn't and was posting the very next day as normal. There were obvious reasons for his not being banned although I PMed several mods and even the head honcho around here. I never got a response. That is why I rarely post here in the convo lately.
It is just a bad idea to have a political/social thread area in a forum dedicated to something completely different in my eyes. Add to that the amount of strong and varied personalities and opinions around here and you are asking for trouble.

I respectfully disagree with the prospect of closing down "The Conversation." I read many Forums on the SRP, however I rarely post in any but The Conversation. It would effectively silence me and I suspect many others.
I don't have much to add to the other Forums or the Threads they contain. Someone with as much to say, has usually said it. I find absolutely no reason to beat a dead horse, so I just read and move on to the next Topic. I didn't need to register to only read the words posted here.

I have been around this subject and deeply concerned with it for many moons now and must completely agree with Alex at this time. It's as open as it can be. Banning people here is as rare as can possibly be imagined. Members have lost control of themselves and left, but I'm still stunned to have discovered one at all.
I hope you'll change your mind and join us here. Don't worry. Posts are normally edited only under the grossest of circumstances. You needn't worry unless you really get unruly.

That's human nature for you. Whenever things have been quiet for a while, something happens which would normally not trigger a reaction at all. Then people get excited and there are arguments, and finally it quiets down again.
