I'm betting GW is right!
Icedog, Don't take offense by GW's manner as it will likely grow on you!Last edited by JMS; 06-26-2008 at 06:44 AM.

unless the pictures are really that bad
thought I asked for more, would be glad to say it was a bobcat if the pictures said as much

Cool story...the reference to Robert & Basil reminds me of an old saying...
-Build a man a fire, and he will stay warm all night.
-Set a man on fire, and he will stay warm the rest of his life.

Thanked: 586Robert is in my shop for now. I will bring him home and take more pictures from various angles. No one is more interested in identifying what is stalking my ducks than I.
I think a nice paint job and a handcrafted pedestal is infinitely more respectful than tossing the dead animal into a dumpster.
So Mr. Hunter, what is your guess as to what Robert was when alive? I have no problem being told I am mistaken. I've been mistaken before, in much more important matters. Now I am sincerely trying to learn and all I'm getting is accusations of fraud.
C'mon GW, lighten up. It's okay to have a little fun now and then. A small plastic moose is a silly diversion. I like diversions. In fact, I have been called a divert more than once.

there are quite some number of escaped exotic species roaming the US
someone once estimated (in the 90s) that private tiger ownership exceeded that of zoos
based on the OP's further postings giving some indication of size I would say that if it were a tiger it would have been very young and therefore almost definitely imported
most adult tigers are very large
largest is the Siberian tiger with males reaching nearly 700 lbs
bengals go around 350
when I said tiger I was also working on the premise that this was a fraudulent skull and has no size reference
here is a link to cat skulls, mostly exotic , some that aren't covered in the last link
http://www.boneroom.com/casts/bclonecat.html
here are domestic dogs
Domestic Dog Breed Skulls
note that boxers look stupid flesh off also
this deals with foxes and most other carnivores all the way through weasels, otters, cats, bears, ect
Carnivore Skulls
since you have it in your hands you are best qualified to make the call
measurements are invaluable for eliminating possibilities
really looking forward to more pics
BTW, the pedestal IS nice.
might put a straight up there with him and change the title to
"ROBERT demonstrates an excessively close shave"

One of the places GWH mentions (Skulls Unlimited) is right here in my backyard. Mike Rowe, Discovery Channel's "Dirty Jobs" man, has even done a spot on the place. I've had the great fortune to be there in-person. The owner, Jay, is very knowledgeable. They now have a museum building separte from the place where the cleaning goes on. The smells are unforgettable.

Thanked: 586The whole deal went down in Newtown.
I disagree with Basil's doc. I don't believe that Robert was a fox. Here are three more photos, with scale:
Now that I look at him from these various angles, although he looks pretty much identical to GWH's bobcat photos, I am beginning to think Robert was a North American Walleroo but what do I know?
Okay Mr. Hunter, please educate me. Please sir, tell us all, what is Robert?Last edited by icedog; 06-27-2008 at 03:29 AM.
