Thanked: 131An SRP book chain?
This is an idea that I expressed on this thread:
http://straightrazorpalace.com/finer...good-book.html
It was a slight tangent from the thread and the thread seemed to fizzle out and stop so my idea kinda fell on deaf ears. I have since however had one or two PMs saying it was a good idea and I should pursue it. So here goes: a book chain.
The idea is that each person in the book chain passes on one of their books that they recommend to the next person in the chain. Nothing heavy or fancy. In fact a dog-eared paperback might be better. The idea is it gets posted to the next person in the chain. After a set time (eg two weeks) the books get passed on again. This chain goes round in a circle until eventually your book ends up back with you. People could attach a sheet with their comments if they like. The books could be discussed with one another by PM or on this thread if you'd prefer.
Its just an idea. Do I have any (more) takers? I have two names already...

Thanked: 131I think we could safely limit things to fiction and biographies/auto-biographies. And I guess Tim... nobody is forcing you to read any book. We only need you to post it on after the time period. Plus it might give you a chance to learn about each others book tastes....

I don't mind, can't speak for Spike and his books though. I have mainly fiction specifically Horror and Fantasy and Pratchett in PB.
If people are worried about sending their books international why not offer the option for domestic groups? That way members can stipulate WHERE they want their books to go (same State only/National/International).
We can keep track on the forum by asking members to post when they dispatch a book, what it was and who it was sent to, sort of like Book Tag!Maybe if we list 5 books each to start that we wouldn't mind sharing and where we would be willing for them to go...............
I think some people were initially put off by your suggestion at the thought of their books leaving the country.
Sir Sidney this is your baby, just adding my thoughts so I hope you don't mind.

Thanked: 131I hope thats not the case Silver. I stay in the UK and so far i've had nobody from Europe even comment
I'd be organizing my 'baby' and seeing no results.
I dont know about 5 books... that sounds more like a library! Unless you mean 5 people, each person giving 1 book. I guess thats what I was meaning.
As for location stipulations... I guess that would be possible. Like I say though, i'd be unlikely to ever see a book. And dont think me selfish, but if there is very little interest, only a couple of people want in and neither will send to UK then i'll give you both each others names and you can get on with it.
You may know the other one. His name is Spike...
Edit: Yes OK there are a few others eg. nun2sharp and Wildtim

I would guess a good old library card will be easier than mailing books about the world from person to person.
If you want to share your interest in reading how about a book discussion forum. You could decide on the book to be discussed a month or two ahead of time and then have at it.
Just a thought.Last edited by Pudu; 06-27-2008 at 12:09 PM.
