I think PUDU may have the idea, use your library card, those that can agree with a book selection, read that book, and then discuss it on the forum or thru PM. Others may wish to chose other authors/genre. Think of postage saved/ trips to post etc. It would be cheap and convenient, and not only do you get a chance to read a good book, you'll also have the opportunity to discuss it amongst friends.

americans send their books to other americans, brits send their books to other brits, etc. mailing a book overseas costs more than just buying it, unless it's a rare and expensive tome.

(off topic, I love the word "tome" but I hardly ever get the chance to use it in a sentence... forgive me)

If you want to share your interest in reading how about a book discussion forum. You could decide on the book to be discussed a month or two ahead of time and then have at it.

    Just a thought.
I like this idea. With the cost of postage I could nearly afford to buy the book in paperback. We have a nice used bood store that sells most paperbacks cheep. Just post a title and those who want to read that book could then have an open disscusion.
I might have to wait untill winter to participate due to time.

So far there have only been Americans interested in this. I am the only brit. I think, with that in mind I will take a step back and let you folks organize it amongst yourselves. Let me know how it goes.

Well the book reading club is a good idea.

Sorry Sidney but when I did look into the cost of shipping a decent paperback to you it would be cheaper to paypal you the purchase price

Since I imagine a book circle would mean the same guy would alays be shipping across the pond I really would feel for the guy.

I'd be in on a book reading and discussion club!!

I have a ton of books. Mostly fantasy and spy / politic fiction.

The thing is: I never pass on good books. I keep all good bookd so that I may read them again, which I do every now and again. I also take a lot of care to make sure my books stay in good condition, so no broken spine, no dogears, ... Even my pratchetts -some of whish I've read 8 times- look good except for where I hold the pages with my thumb.
Because most other do not take as much care as I do, I never lend books to anyone else.

I do have a pile of books that I do not want to hang on to, and I will gladly donate them to the book initiative. These books are not bad or anything, but I just can't see myself reading them a second time.
Most of them are non-fantasy books.
Normally I sell them at a second hand bookstore, but it's been a while since I went there.

Once I send them out I have no need to get them back. The only thing I ask is that the shipping is paid for.
I will compile an index of those books, if there is interest.

We have a box full of unwanted or duplicate books we want to get rid of. So thats a good idea Bruno. I'll dig the box out and compile a list of what we have and post it. I can't remember what's in there only that there are some Star Wars books up for grabs.
