Thanked: 1587I was a Jon Pertwee fan, with Tom Baker running a very close second.
Some of the best viewing memories I have is of the 6-7pm time slot on the ABC growing up. The Goodies from 6-6:30, then Doctor Who from 6:30 to 7. Life didn't get much better than that.
Seems like there's a few Doctor Who fans out there - just out of curiosity, who was/is your favourite side-kick? Mine are, in order, Sarah-Jane Smith, k-9 (MK I), and Leela (grrrr!) Oh, and I remember wanting to grow up to be just like Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart (don't ask me why - I don't know).

Tom Baker was my doctor, too. I've been a huge fan ever since. Of the recent reincarnations, David Tennant is my favorite. The family and I (kids bedtimes are moved around to allow viewing of the show) watch it and Torchwood religeously. In fact, it's pretty much the only TV that I watch.
Torchwood was a fantastic spinoff, but I watched a couple of the Sara-Jane Smith spinoff episodes and they just didn't appeal to me as much (albeit, I think their target audience was a wee bit younger).
I'm glad to hear that Tennant will be around for a while. He's a natural for the role.

Dr Who
I guess this will flush us down unders out!! I too have watched the series since the early 60's often whilst hiding behind the couch, Daleks use to scare the hell out of me, I still view wheelie bins with a certain suspicion. I have enjoyed the latest series, Billie Piper is hard to beat as a new sidekick.
Cheers

Not so much lucky as getting on a bit!
My son nearly killed Tom Baker when he was a lad. Tom was doing a Doctor Who book signing at a department store in Cardiff, in the full gear with that scarf. My son who was about nine at the time wanted his autograph. Tom sets off down some stairs with my son giving chase.
My son stopped him in his tracks when he stood on the end of his scarf on the steps and Tom went flying!
My son got his autograph...

But that's the whole point. Bad sets need camp, if not high camp acting because noone belives it so that the actors have to work extra hard
Favourite assistants were the second Romalla & Tegan. Not too sure about the new ones. They come & go so fast! Really didn't like Donna played by Catherine Tate at first. Still not convinced & secretly hope she's the one who catches it on Saturday. Ooops!

I also remember the Daleks coming to Cardiff in the early days. Terry Nation, who was the inventor of them was a Cardiff man and he arranged for a couple of Daleks (probably all they had then) to come to Cardiff and roll down the main street.
For anyone who knows Cardiff, they came in from Newport Road under the railway bridge into Queen Street.
At that time there was a huge dip in the road under the bridge to get trucks under. Along came the Daleks saying Exterminate of course.
The problems started when they hit the dip under the bridge. There were no brakes on them and they worked by the operator inside shuffling his feet. The first one started building up speed, closely followed by the second. Out of control, they ended up in a heap at the bottom of the dip, on their sides with their feet hanging out!
Made Oi Laarf!

Not sure if I count as a Dr Who fan, but doc got me hooked on torchwood.
It's gotten me interested in the rest and I may be checking out some more in the future.
What's the one that's more kid oriented that came out recently? I read an article on it and can't remember it.

Thanked: 953Oh dude, you are so wrong. Captain Kirk will always be the only Captain - no one will ever match the super powered karate chops and righteous humanistic rants. And Adrien Zmed and Heather Locklear will never be surpassed as first and second officers.
I love Dr. Who, Torchwood, Gallactica, Atlantis.....I guess I'm a scifi junkie. But

Huzzah!
My ex History teacher introduced me to the world of Doctor Who at the beginning of the first new season (Ninth Doctor, Christopher Eccleston).
The first season was prety damn good, though I have yet to see the first episode and the first of the two-parters in which Captain Jack makes his debut.
The second was a brilliant season. And that's that.
The third had some rather good episodes, but I was never as crazy for Martha Jones (Freema Agyema) as the crew (as interviewed in Doctor Who Confidential) seemed to be. A good companion, but too — I hesitatie to pick the right word — child-like.
The fourth is probably my favourite so far. Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) is brilliant!
But why was Billie Piper talking like that in Episode Twelve? She also looked very different; most notably in that episodes Confidential.
As to the earlier Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Smith Adventures, I fully plan on watching all of them. But not to-day.Last edited by Presently42; 07-03-2008 at 07:27 AM. Reason: Donna NOBLE, silly.
