Not this video, it just happened recently, the pizza employee was being interviewed today. Check out the rest of the story from todays fox news:
The video follows the action, including the devastating blow which left Ramirez unconscious for several minutes.
That's where the video cuts out, but not where the action ends.
Surprisingly, Ramirez reportedly gets back up and runs from the restaurant, according to the report.
But an alert bystander noticed what was happening and started chasing the suspect. Unable to catch the would-be thief himself, he convinced two other witnesses, who were in a car, to follow the fleeing robber, according to the report. They were then able to give police a location, which led to a speedy arrest.
"Four different citizens helped out in this situation," said Officer Jim Bryan of the Denton Police Department. "We were able to get him into custody in about fifteen minutes," according to MyFoxDallas.com.Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

If this played out in Belgium, then the police would question you, but you'd walk away afterwards, as long as you stopped when the threat had ended. Putting the boot in a couple of times when the assailant was unconcious would change it from defense to revenge.
The point of fighting back is to eliminate the threat. Not to dispense justice. Dispensing punishment is solely the prerogative of the judicial system.
Also, not all european countries are the same, just as the states of the US are no all the same.
Generalizing europeans over the rules in a specific country is as meaningless as generalizing americans over the laws in Texas.
Given that the US has it's own share of internal problems and external problems, I could just as well pass judgment on the US for the sad state of those affairs.

There are a lot of pizza delivery theft attempt stories and I assume it's because many thieves think it's easier to prey on delivery drivers. Here's a story from 10 Jan. 2008: East Charlotte: Pizza driver shoots, kills armed robber - Topix
A driver for Domino's Pizza fatally shot an armed robber Tuesday as he was delivering a pizza at an east Charlotte apartment complex, Charlotte Mecklenburg police said.
Demetrius Jerome Wright, who died at the scene, is one of two people who allegedly tried to rob the delivery man at the Green Briar Apartments, off North Sharon Amity Road, police said.Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

Thanked: 735#1- The robber pistol whips the pizza guy.
#2- Pizza guy opens up an extra large can of whupass on the dude.
#3-At some point during the bludgeoning the robber loses his toupee/wig!
#4-The robber is still clutching the gun in his hand as he slumps down, unconcious to the floor. Thus it wasn't fist vs. fist, as the robber was armed the entire time he recieved his beating.

I gotta say, despite being of European mindset (on social rights etc.), I also reckon the robber got what was coming. No sympathy there.
Reminds me of another story which my Dad sent me recently. My father is a retired police officer, served 39 years in HK for Her Majesty's Government. He was very much of the "tough justice" philosopy. You do something wrong, you deserve whatever's coming. ANyway, here's justice Chinese-style: snopes.com: Japanese Hostage Negotiations
