Thanked: 131Whereas the current president is yet to start shaving. The surname is the clue.

Thanked: 79I doubt he uses a straight or even a DE as well. I'll bet he has a fusion, although it's possible he goes to a barber for shaves. Doubt it though.
The electrolysis actually wouldn't surprise me, to be honest, but not going to say that's what he did.
If I were to guess, none of them uses a straight. If I were going to give the edge to anyone, possibly McCain would be a straight guy, but I doubt any of them use one right now.
Possibly some of them visit barbers who use straights (high dollar haircuts notwithstanding, wouldn't surprise me with many of our politicians. I can't see paying a man hundreds of dollars for a hair cut and him not being adept with a straight also...)

Secret sevice would advise against letting a barber use a straight on anyone they are responsible for

Thanked: 79Maybe, maybe not... stylists shears and thinning razors for those expensive haircuts could be dangerous also.
My bet is that if there is a barber involved he gets checked out thoroughly, much like the staff at the White House, etc.
Mr. Obama and McCain get a degree of protection, but neither man is actually the President yet. No doubt whatever occurs it is checked out, within reason, but realistically the candidates travel by plane and other vehicles, which can have accidents; they eat food cooked for them by others, which is a risk of course also. I don't think there's any reason to think they couldn't be professionally groomed, should they wish. I almost lean to the idea that they DO. Just not sure they themselves would use a straight or not.

Do the presidential candidates get Secret Service protection, or is that taken care of by third party organizations which are hired by the parties / candidate organization themselves?

If I remember correctly, the candidates do get Secret Service protection as well.
Edit:
From the US Secret Service FAQs:
Major presidential and vice presidential candidates, and their spouses within 120 days of a general presidential election.Last edited by ByronTodd; 07-30-2008 at 05:49 PM.

I'd be hard put to think of anyone in politics today who would strike me as a possible straight user. Obama in particular, I'd say unlikely. Spartacus, you'd know better than I do, but the factor of his being black did occur to me. (I mean you'd know better than I whether straight shaving is more problematic for black men.) But more than that, though I like him, he doesn't seem very old school.

IAS wouldn't really know, because he wasn't black.

Let's not get the discussion off-topic and discuss IaS. I only post that link here so that we can get that particular misconception out of the way.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
