Russell I saw your design that nearly fell off the cliff and thought to myself, "I'll just build a bulldozer that plows through the obstacles. It looked like it was going to work for a minute! Fantastic Contraption: A fun online physics puzzle game

Now that's interesting. At first I thought you had just built a catapult like I've seen done dozens of times already, but upon inspection I realized the arm is only connected to the wheel at one joint! The axle provides the arm its fulcrum, very clever there. You can get a sharper, quicker release that way it seems...

It was a power to weight ratio problem, the extra beam limits the speed of the arm. Also, you might notice that none of the drive wheels bind up; by connecting them all to the top wheel you never get criss-crossed connecting rods, and thus have more consistent results.

I was more tickled by being able to go up and over the entire course then anything else, but I appreciate the compliments on the design.

Yes, I just discovered that last night when I was showing the game to some interested friends. I tried to act like I wasn't surprised at how well it worked as if I had known it all along
