'Tis A Good Week To Be Black
Now before you start assuming this thread has racist intent, it doesn't and I Want to KEEP IT THAT WAY!!!!!
We have 2 Firsts this week. We have our first black Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton, who was greeted by appalling booing and slurs from the fans at Interlagos. And now the US has it's first black President in Mr Obama.
The after race hype regarding Lewis Hamilton purely surrounded the fact he was Britains first World Champion since Damon Hill back in 1996, what no one was or is saying is that he is also the first black driver to EVER win the F1 crown.
The reason I like Mr Obama is that he has restored hope in Politics, which is something I have never witnessed before, I'm only 34 so JFK was way before my time. As for our Politics here in the UK, Thatcher is the earliest I can remember and she has been followed by a slew of uninspirational repacements causing an apathy towards the whole system.
I do not understand why people get caught up on the colour of someone's skin, it is after all only a pigment molecule in someones DNA. It does not affect a person's intelligence or bravery or compassion. Their conviction of belief should be enough.
Congratulations to both Lewis Hamilton and Mr Obama for having the courage to follow their convictions through to their respective victories.

Thanked: 131It should be pointed out that the F1 race was help in Brazil, home city of Massa. Massa came first in the race and had Hamilton placed 6th or below Massa would have finished the drivers championship in 1st place in front of his home crowd. Hamilton placed fifth and in doing so denied Massa the title. Naturally the brazilians were unhappy.
I'm not sure, you dont say whether the booing was before or after the race. I suspect it was before. If so it would be largely due to the Massa/Hamilton rivalry for top spot.

Sir Sidney. The booing was before and after the race, there is even a Spainsh "Voodoo" website forum that has seen posting of venomous messages and hex/curses aimed at Lewis (purely for the fact he is black) for several months.
WHY???
Hate him for being a bloody good driver, hate him for pipping Massa to the post but don't disparage the guy for his colour.

Personally I couldn't care less for the colour of someone's skin.
As for politics...I don't believe in any poliiticians. And I'm sure this one will have his giant messes to solve (that he creates himself) just as much as the previous ones.
Personally I think the people that get all hyped because someone's black and accomplishes something are just as racist as the ones who say they can't do anything because they're black....just on the other end.

Thanked: 586It has been a long battle for alot of people who, by no fault of their own have been mistreated in too many ways to enumerate. My girlfriend is a black woman. Last night she was so emotional it had me crying too. It is impossible to understand what someone of color feels when a situation is clearly unfair due to racist behavior. But I know now there is a true light, a new hope for those who may have always believed the better things in life have been intentionally placed out of reach of the black man.
Hey, now that this wall has been broken down and an African-American has been elected President, perhaps there is hope for us Italian-Americans.

Thanked: 31I can honestly say I don't know a single anti-Obama voter personally who mentioned his color at all. All the discussions we've had at work had to do with liberty and socialism.
