If my two year old hears dancing queen, she blurts out "dansthing thktween" and starts spinning around like a dervish. It's really priceless. Which reminds me I need to go buy Mama Mia for the minivan DVD player for those times when I really need to keep the kids calm on a long drive. Oh what have I become!

"but their suicide rate is 84% higher which is a good thing"

Interesting point. Guess the poster is one of the few who take pleasure in the personal tragedy of others.

Though I share your suspicion of the joy he takes in a higher suicide rate, I'd have to see what sampling he references for his 84%. If he's speaking globally, he's including lots of less theistic countries that have much higher life expectancies than the U.S. In that case, he's feeling gleeful about the higher suicide rate among the elderly, which is often nothing more than a dignified, self-orchestrated exit. Though we miss them, the notion of tragedy is arguable.

Plus, if you look at percentages, a rise in suicide rates from 3 per thousand to 6 per thousand would be a 100% rise in the suicide rate -- from 0.3 percent to 0.6 percent. As the man said, there are lies, there are damned lies, and then there are statistics.

I don't think I need to get into the percentages of divorce, alcoholism, domestic violence, and incest that the fundies enjoy. That would be un-Christian. And I am, after all, a Christian.

Now back to our regular programming, already in progress.

who says it is tragic.. it is merely a fundamental choice and the right to exercise it should not be abridged!

I for one would never dictate my personal views to anyone ... do as you see fit but beware some actions have irreversible outcomes.

you ever notice how the first things people bring out are stupid

"I don't think I need to get into the percentages of divorce, alcoholism, domestic violence, and incest that the fundies enjoy"
domestic violence and incest are horrid crimes that are rather rare, happen in nearly all societies and at all levels of the racial and socioeconomic scale... hell some sick people think of these things as religious freedoms... trust me them committing suicide is saving the taxpayers a whole pile of money.

I looked it up and the rate of domestic violence in the U.S. is something like 9000% (no exaggeration) higher than the suicide rate. The rate of incest, while harder to quantify, is said to be similar. And the rates of both are absolutely NOT spread evenly over the socio-economic scale. They are by far more prevalent in lower income and educational groups, the same as fundamentalist religion.

Billyjeff said it was tragic. Look back and it will be apparent that I was responding to his post.

Not sure where you're going with the bit on taxes and the civil service. That seemed to come out of left field, so I'll leave that one alone.

Happy to clarify. Have a nice day.
