    Default The Inaugration

While SRP doesn't take official political positions, other than shaving is good.. We do all like hanging out together.. So here's where we can all watch the inaugration together, and hang out in the chat.

I am in DC and you would not believe the strain the event has put on the city. I will probably watch the even on Hulu like the rest of y'all, don't want to go to the even. I will never go to one no matter who is getting inaugrated, don't like them period.

I'll stick to watching Turner Classic Movies or the Speed Channel.

I'm in DC too, and its pretty tough. I'm hunkered down in my apartment right now since I have off from school mon. and tues., but I'll still be workin on monday, so that's never fun. But I don't plan on leaving my apt. unless I have to until this whole thing is over.

I always enjoy the enthusiasm of the American people at these times and I'm glad you are getting a new President and I truly hope he is a successful President.

I'm sitting down with my 6-y-o to watch it tomorrow. I remember my Dad sitting me down to watch the first Shuttle launch (1981?) and saying "Pay attention, son, this is history in the making". I figure it's my turn to say that tomorrow.

The one thing that has always truly amazed me about our country, since its inception, is the peaceful transfer of power. We have a man (and some day maybe a woman) who is the head of the most powerful war machine that the world has ever seen, and, after his term is up, he willingly and peacefully hands over the keys to the Whitehouse, and all the power that goes with it, to the next President. That is amazing!! May God Bless the United States of America, and her next President!

It is indeed something interesting, and it only happens like that in western cultures.
Part of it probably stems from the fact that the president / leader only has the power that he is allowed to have by convention.

I was thinking the exact same thing watching the two Presidents and their wives walking down the steps together this afternoon. I think we take this for granted sometimes. He wasn't my candidate, but he's now my President and I wish Mr. Obama, and by extension - us, all the best. I hope he succeeds.
