It is indeed something interesting, and it only happens like that in western cultures.
Part of it probably stems from the fact that the president / leader only has the power that he is allowed to have by convention.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

I was thinking the exact same thing watching the two Presidents and their wives walking down the steps together this afternoon. I think we take this for granted sometimes. He wasn't my candidate, but he's now my President and I wish Mr. Obama, and by extension - us, all the best. I hope he succeeds.

Thanked: 586The entire program moved me greatly. I am very happy that we have come far enough to see such an amazing moment installed into the history books. There is no doubt that Mr. Obama has a very long row to hoe but someone much smarter than I once said, "When things are at their worst is when people are at their best." We have much in this country to be proud of and I think Aretha Franklin is right up there at the top of the list: YouTube - Aretha FRANKLIN,Marian ANDERSON,sing My Country Tis Of Thee - Barack Obama Inauguration.

I teared up when Aretha sang My Country Tis Of Thee. Also when Rev. Joseph Lowery quoted some of Dr. King's "I Have A Dream" speech and then amazingly to me some of Big Bill Broonzy's "Black, Brown and White". A great day. I hope all Americans will give our new President their support. For all of our sakes.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
