There was no water in the lake.

I reckon because the were not single men.

    Here's a puzzle:

The rectangle in the corner has dimensions 7cm by 14cm. What is the radius of the circle?

I just proved to myself it's not 28 and it is 35.

Less a riddle, more simple arithmetic

    Another one:

Five people are lined up, blindfolded.
A sixth person comes into the room with a gun.
The sixth person shoots everyone in the head once.
Only one person falls dead. How?

And apologies for the violent riddle. It had me stumped for ages, thats all.

    A) Only one chamber had a (live) bullet, Russian roulette style.
    B) The 5 blindfolded people were already dead, the sixth person shot everyone (including himself) so he was the one who fell dead.
    C) The 5 blindfolded people were lying down, the sixth person shot everyone (including himself) so he was the one who fell dead.
    D) He was shooting tranquilisers, but one fell dead from a heart attack.
    E) He shot the first person who fell dead, the others fainted so didn't fall dead, they just died.

I could go on, but I still think I'm way off the mark.

    EDIT> Oh and I agree on the answer of 35 above. [ (r-7)^2 + (r-14)^2 = r^2 etc. ]

You are right in one of your guesses R. But then again if you make enough guesses in one post you're bound to get there eventually. So either take the next shot and hang your head in shame or stick your guess in one place.

    F) It was a low caliber gun that isn't always very effective.

    G) The shooter was not a good shot and just grazed most of them.

    OK I plump for:
    C) The 5 blindfolded people were lying down, the sixth person shot everyone (including himself) so he was the one who fell dead.
