Thanked: 369Au Revoir Vin?
What the hell?
French get a sober warning to give up wine for their health - Times Online
Now I need a drink.
Might as well...if I don't do something that'll kill me, I might live for frickin' ever.
Cheers!

Oh, wow! I guess that serves them well those socialists. Good thing I live in the land of the free - I don't trust the local government, so I could really care less about some foreign one
As long as they don't uproot Burgundy and Champagne vineyards I think I'll be good, and I'm sure if they try there'll be a civil war, or may be WW3 where the allies would join forces against the rogue French government.

I wish wine didn't always give me a bad headache? Why is that? Be it just a glass or the whole bottle, wine would make me feel like crap when I'd drink it. Even the organic stuff with only "naturally occurring sulfites".

Some people do react badly to wine. I know someone with migraines who just can't drink it--especially red--it tends to bring on an attack, and from all I've heard nobody wants to invite one of those.

But somehow I don't think the French will quietly give up their wine. Mr. Sarkozy's government may find they have bitten off more than they can chew this time; or poured more than they can drink.
Vive la France, vive la liberté, l'égalité, la fraternité ... et vive le vin.

Thanked: 416its usually the tannins in red wine that cause the headaches. You should be ok with whites tho.

I think you're right about something in the fermentation, Ivan. I rarely drink any more. Wine wouldn't send me into migraine territory, but headache territory. Beer similarly but to a lesser extent. If I have a drink these days (rarely), I usually prefer a ****tail of some kind or another.

Not migraines. But wine brings on a bad hangover, even if I drink just one glass. I feel nauseous all day, my depth perception is shot and my vision trails half a second behind my movement.
It makes me feel so bad that I have stopped drinking wine altogether.
But I wouldn't count on the French giving up wine anytime soon.
Cognacs usually don't have this effect, even though they are made from wine. It probably has to do with the distillation process.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

for them to mention that red meat is bad and salt also is another typical government crap fest. if you get a good quality meat (doesn't have to be organic but free run is a must, with no hormones) and eat a reasonably sized portion along with green vegetables it is very good for you. as far as salt goes, in moderation sea salt is a great source of minerals and has little to no effect on blood pressure and cholesterol.
the type of alcohol that is in beer and wine and liquor is believed by many to be a neurotoxin that can poison your brain. it also messes with you hormones, which is very bad. i will admit that still like a beer here and there and i don't mind wine. but for me it is probably about once a month now, and in the last 4 years i can honestly say i have been drunk twice, and i payed for it. this is my motivation for sure, NO hangovers.
the best way to be healthy is to put good things in your body and exercise. that doesn't mean 40 supplements a day, just good food and lots of good water.
