A Heads Up
I don't know if the following is for real but here it is just in case;
Oh great . . . one more thing for us to worry about!
Snopes verified & approved . . .So Be Warned!
I locked my car --- as I walked away I heard my car door unlock. I went
back and locked my car again three times. I looked around and there were
two guys sitting in a car in the fire lane next to the store. When I looked
straight at them, they did not unlock my car again. Read on to find out how to lock your car safely.
While traveling my son stopped at a roadside park. He came out to his car
less than 45 minutes later and found someone had gotten into his car, and
stolen his cell phone, laptop computer, and GPS navigator briefcase. He
called the police and since there were no signs of his car being broken
into, the police told him that there is a device that robbers are using now
to clone your security code when you lock your doors on your car using your
key-chain locking device.
They sit a distance away and watch for their next victim. They know you
are going inside of the store, restaurant, or bathroom and have a few
minutes to steal and run. The police officer said to be sure to manually
lock your car door by hitting the lock button inside the car. That way if
there is someone sitting in a parking lot watching for their next victim, it
will not be you. When you hit the lock button on your car upon exiting, it
does not send the security code, but if you walk away and use the door lock
on your key chain, it sends the code through the airwaves where it can be
stolen, something totally new to us and real. Be aware of this and please

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Cheers Jimmy.
I've got a Clifford on mine & they're supposed to have anti code grabbing technology. Encrypted signal or something. It didn't stop some little b@stard chucking a brick through the window a couple of weeks ago though!

My car is just enough to get by. I have no A/C (I have two windows though), no auto windows, and manual locks.
Nothing says hi-tech safe like a low-tech lifestyle.

Reminds me of an SNL pseudo-commercial from the eighties where a fictitious car was marketed as purposely looking like a junker from the exterior but was disguising a luxury vehicle and interior.

Thanked: 20I have no doubt that it's possible, the guy you quoted seems to have been "white hatted" they wanted him to know it could be done. Instructables.com has some very cool builds to play with some of the lower end security stuff, shopping carts and the like. the point is to let people know that it can be done, and so they will safeguard themselves. how many people still don't have encoded garage door openers? and yet its the biggest vulnerability in a home where the garage is attached.

Thanked: 23My anti-theft system
I have a great anti-theft system. It's called ''I don't own anything worth stealing". The only things I own that have any financial value is my razors, and those have no local value what so ever. If you broke in to my car, you'd be lucky to find a Bic lighter or a cigarette that rolled under the seat. :P
Until my current car, even, I never even locked my doors. I always figured if someone wanted in, better they open the damn door than smash a window or bugger up my locks or do damage.
One time someone stole some change that had rolled out of my pocket, though. :P
