Whew, what a trip!
Well, I'm back from France today, and I must say, it's a fantastic place. I didn't get to do as much as I'd hoped, but no regrets. The tourist traps were so awe-inspiring in real life. The highlight of my trip as far as sights was Versailles. The sheer opulence of it is breathtaking. I've never seen so much gold everywhere. What really threw me for a loop was the thought that at one time, people lived there among all of it. No wonder the French people were ****ed at Louis and Marie!
What really made France though was the people. Contrary to popular belief, I don't think I've met a nicer culture. Watching how typical Americans interact with them, it's no stretch of the imagination as to why they dislike us and act snooty to typical Americans.
Speaking of nice people, how about those Dutch? I ended up getting questioned and searched a few times at Schipol, and it was the most pleasant searches I've experienced. I'd like to go back and actually visit sometime soon.

Thanked: 586I think you missed my stupid joke. You see, I noticed you are from Oklahoma and if I remember correctly, the license plates in Oklahoma say, "Oklahioma is OK." So because you had such a wonderful trip, I thought you might, well... nevermind.
I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. That Amsterdam Airport is awesome ain't it?

I hate our plates, thus blocked that stupid slogan from my mind. Some really great and belabored mind came up with that slogan for sure.
Yeah, Schipol is great. If I had to have a long layover anywhere, I think that's where I'd pick (of the airports I've been to thus far).

I've always found the French to be very friendly. As long as you attempt their language they'll help you out. It's when you talk to them in English from the outset that they are awkward. If we constantly had tourists asking us questions in French, expecting answers in French we'd be awkward too! It must drive them nut's!
I must admit though, i've found that if any Frenchman is going to be offhand, it's most likely a Parisien!

Well you probably did see my house on your way to Schiphol. when the wind is right the landing pattern is right over "Gooi meer" about 32Km west of Schiphol. if you saw some strange buildings standing in the water.. thats the town I live in..

The crash wasnt really a Schiphol problem but more a problem with the 737 I think its a miracle so many people survived the crash..

You know, I'm glad you brought that up! I'm sure I did see those buildings in the water. I was wondering about the large water area at the corner of Provincialeweg and A2/E35. Google says it's called Vinkeveense Plassen. It's a large body of water with rows of something jutting out from land. Are those houses?
