Thank you for bringing this up, Ray. The only thing worse than misaligned TP, is TP that was shredded without regard to the perforations by the prior occupant, leaving a mangled, useless, partial square. Have they no sense of decency? Have they no shame?

sorry to sidetrack, but do you prefer roll over top or from under? I prefer it to roll under. I feel it makes one handed tearing easier (along the perforations, I hate when a two ply roll is started by somebody and they don't make sure both ply's are unrolling. I just bought 3 ply for the first time, it should be interesting). I also find that I have less instances of pulling paper and it starts free spinning. but I don't know if that is because I am such an expert at unrolling it and don't pull too hard.
I call it my "constitutional" and sadly am known, family and friends, to have a set schedule. after work I come home and disappear for 20-30 minutes (depending on how good the reading is). when I proposed adding better lighting and maybe a tv to the toilet enclosure my wife didn't even attempt to humor me. a resounding NO followed by a "we'd never see you!"

Thanked: 335This question sounds delightfully anal, almost retentively so. While nothing can be done to re-align the perforations between the sheets, if one wants custom sized lengths of TP, one should bring a pair of scissors with one when using the water closet. Using this tool will eliminate the sloppiness of the torn edge when cutting lengths to the proper dimension. The scissors may also be used effectively to cut the tissue to a desired width if that is also required.

I take and have much sympathy with your point but for me, even worse than that are the twisted souls who leave only one leaf on the roll on the grounds that it's not finished so they don't need to put a new one ready. This is compounded when the main stash of TP is kept in bathroom 1 and you happen to be in bathroom 2.

If the paper is cut and not torn, you run the risk of getting a paper cut. If the paper must be made into a different size, I suggest wetting it along the desired dimensions, away from the rest of the roll, and then tearing to size.
If something undesirable is found on my roll of toilet paper, that spot gets to go on the inside of the roll I plan on using. There will be no chance of anything being left behind if I can help it, and that includes unsecured bits of misaligned toilet paper.
