good call. this is why the ones i mentioned are all organic (whether you believe in it or not) and the processing is very minimal. the whey ones are sourced from grain fed free run cattle, though the milk is pasteurized. i haven't found a good whey protein that uses raw milk, although simply drinking raw milk is a good source, if you can find it.

I just munch on almonds/peanuts and/or pumpkin seeds when backpacking, canoeing, hiking, etc...

They are about 8 grams and 19 grams protein per 1/4 cup, respectively. They keep well and are easy to store in a baggie.

ON 100% Natural Whey is the best protein supplement IMO.

If I can't find a substitute I will probably go back to MHP. I was just wondering if anyone else has had any luck with anything else.

I am not a body builder. I am a runner and backpacker. So I use the protein as a lactic acid buffer and rebuilder or muscle sustainer.
I take ON...like you...i'm far from a body builder, i'm am more a wannabe runner (currently trying to improve my 7 mile run to make in under 1hr)...

I take protein because i dont have good eating habits (well my wife dont help with this either she is a great cook)...

    But if you can...
eat fish, chicken breast, eggs, nuts veggies, fruts, etc...
there is nothing wrong with eggs...lot of people are afraid to eat them everyday...

you can take 3-4 egg whites in the morning EVERY DAY...
I mix 1 full egg and 3 whites...for the flavor and color...nothing wrong with the whole egg...the yolk have the most nutrient but the white have the best protein...

NoExplode is not a protein...but a supplement...it ment for body builder though...

    I hate ON.

It is just flavored water. When I was taking MHP and running 3-5 miles a day 6 days a week. I started to see gains in speed, muscle size, muscle endurance, and overall performance.

I need to get back to that position. I had to take a year off after surgery and have been having reoccurring problems ever since which has kept me sidelined for another year.

I am unhappy and will run in pain if I have to. I really do not care at this point.

If you are a runner I recommend MHP over the others that I named based on my experience. I am going to order some of the Syntrex Nectar which is appealing due its no sugar no fat formula. I may get some Shotgun to help me get started as well.

Running is lifting weights and pounding. I mean you have to turn your legs over and over with your whole body weight on them for miles and miles. Not to mention there should be some weights in your routine somewhere.

i do cardio for 1 hr and then hit the weight for 45m to 1hr...3-4 times a week
I combine elliptical (30 min) with running (30 min at 6.5 avg mpg and 1% inc) and Sprints (1 miles @ 7mph,4 1 min "sprints" @ 12mph with 2 min walk, and then finishing the 30 minutes workout or i just run for 1hr at the gym...
usually i burn 900 calories and then i'm dead tired before hitting the weights...but i do it anyways...

i have lost like 15# of fat the last 4 months...
no diet here...eating normal including dessert...

I have gone from 230 back in 02 to 172 (18% fat) now...
I want to lose at least 5% more fat...

    that protein seems interesting...
i will give it a try

    (check netrition.com for good prices)

I love hummus with chile in it I eat enough junk over the years (and feeling it) to shorten my life enough as is. Now I just try not putting in anymore toxins. I still eat what many call junk food, but I make it out of good basics so it is actually good for you. I'm not a granolla head by any means I just cut out the prosseced foods and make my own

I'm into bicycle touring so I'm not just a couch potato spouting out junk. I'm looking for good fuel for my system as well.

I've had good results from Isopure. It's one of the higher quality proteins out there. They have a natural version.

50G protein per serving, and it's glutamine enriched to aid recovery. Excellent stuff, and it does not have all the carbs a lot of the weight gainer proteins have.

Quick absorbing Isopure whey directly after a workout, and Muscle or Monster Milk before bed for the slow release casein protein. Good stuff.

I was a fan of the over the counter suppliments however I have through experience learned that your greatest obsorbtion will come from organic lines of foods which is most purest and agreeble to the body. However you will have to do independant research. I have a friend who is a bodybuilder and he also has gained this knowledge. He contends that he would not be able to compete with out it !
