Why beveling the edges of your hone is a good thing
So Saturday I was honing my Global kitchen knife and now I have less of one finger and three stitches on the other.
I am still looking for the piece that I sliced off. It was gory and bloody. I'll post pics of the stitches tomorrow.
I was on the final stroke when the edge of the blade caught on the edge of the hone throwing my right hand forward and my middle and ring finger into the path of a fast moving knife. The knife won and SWMBO has forbid me from honing alone.
Forget the TPT I have the FTT (Finger tip test) and yes it is sharp. The doctor that closed me up even said so.

Bummer. Hope you heal fast and have no permanent nerve damage or anything like that.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Ouch, that sounds painful. I feel bad for you now that SWMBO is on your case. I recently nicked my shaving scar, causing it to bleed from the same place. I thought I'd never hear the end of it

Speed kills... or something like that ... OUCH!
I've yet to slice off part while sharpening, ground off parts.. Yup, been there done that. Ground off 4 finget tips flattening a bevel on a single bevel slicer... "Why is my stone turning red... ouch when did that happen..."
The last time I used "house" knives at work I took the nail off my ring finger cutting green onions, now that was an experience I don't care to repeat.
Hope the cuts heal up fast, and watch that missing finger tip, they stay sensitive for a while...

Thanks for all the well wishes.
Here is the pic of the stitches. It doesn't look too bad cause I have not gotten the courage to clean it up yet.

I am still a little gun shy around my str8s. This morning instead of continuing with my stropping challenge I had to go with a Schick 66 SE. A good shave but too much blood for me. I swear no matter how little pressure I use I still get weepers.
I opted for the SE because of where the stitches are in relation to where I hold the str8. I think I will have to break out my Gems and ERs for a couple of weeks.
I did learn something very valuable about CA when this happened. CA adhears to blood faster than skin. I had no idea.
Thanks for the beer, I think I'll have another.

yeoow !
hope it heals well
I have four scars all in the same place on my left index all from using proper technique, but lifting the knife too high and getting some skin.
The last one was recent and it's not healed yet 5 weeks later.
I just keep getting back up on the horse though LOL.
On a serious point here.
I think (omg don't ban me) but I think that sometimes kitchen knives can be too sharp.
I've been bitten a few times where if my knife hadn't been so stupid sharp, it wouldn't have been so bad.

Aiaiai! That must have caused quite some consternation at the Singlewedges'!
Ah well, at least you did it in style, with a nice Yoshikin Global. And you earned yourself mrs Singlewedge's devoted company whenever you hone.
