I really think the best way to travel with a guitar is to send it U.P.S. before you leave, they will take better care of your package than a baggage thrower.

I think the reaction of the airline and the run around they've been getting is the issue, not necessarily the damage to the guitar. Had UA showed some real and sincere customer service, no one would have ever heard of this.

There are actually two songs written so far talking about the damage and UA's reaction; a third is coming which will detail the final outcome.

He's still alive to whine about it. He could've been on the Taylor website: Coleman Mellett

Sure it does. If they had not broken his guitar, and he wrote songs about it, neither you, nor I, nor most anybody aside from rsrick would have ever heard of them.

It doen't justify the actions, but it is the silver lining to the story.

But was that guitar in one of those tank cases? or was it just a soft carry case?

I cannot imagine anyone who owns a Taylor guitar putting it in the hold of an airplane in a softshell case. Much less a professional player who earns his living with it. That guitar was in the hardshell case it came with when it was bought, you can count on it.

United is such a terrible airline anyway. The only positive thing about flying with them is that I made it to all of my destinations. In this day and age though, getting there should be assumed. If Dutch KLM flew everywhere, that's who I'd take.

noted that David Carrol has released a video statement, basically saying that things are being worked out and that UA is offering him some cash, which he hopes they will donate to a charity of their choice.
