United Breaks Guitars
I stumbled across this video on Digg.
This is about a guy that flew United Airlines for his Country music tour and noticed the baggage handlers were throwing his $3500 Taylor guitar around and eventually broke it. The band also noticed the handlers were throwing around the bassists instrument as well.
In short, the guy never got it resolved so he made 3 songs about it and currently 1 video.
Here is the link to his website with the explanation.

If someone broke my acoustic baby, I would be inconsolable/homicidal.
Writing songs is a better outlet than any options I would have considered.

I got a Taylor 810 (back in the day this was supposudly their "flagship") for college graduation last december.. Needless to say when I went to my parents for Christmas (flying) I wanted to take it along... that's the most nervous I've ever been while flying. Fortunately the guitar and case made it there and back unscathed. I've always heard horror stories about flying with a guitar. My parents know a semi-professional musician, and when he used to fly he would buy a second seat for his guitar.

Thanked: 735Sorry, no sympathy from me.
"Gee, I think I'll put my $3,500 guitar in checked luggage, nothing bad can happen..."
DUH!
Next time I'll bring a Tiffany lamp with me on my business trip to Japan, and then b!tch and moan about it surprisingly not completing the voyage.
Not United's fault, it is the guitarist's fault for putting his guitar in harm's way.
And upon now listening to that song, I'd have to say United may very well deserve some kind of award or medal of honor for making the world a better place by trying to rid it of yet one more mediocre country/folk garage band.
Perhaps United should outfit all airplanes with bomb bay doors and seat all country/folk bands directly over this special reserved seating section, along with their luggage...
Here we have Mr. Slim Pickens playing the part of a country/folk singer demonstrating United's new "Frequent Folk Flyers" seating section:

So you think it's right that baggage handlers ABUSE the luggage they're entrusted with? You consider that normal?
Baggage handlers are supposed to be proffesionals. People entrust their belongings to these people and they throw it around, jump on it, sit on it and who knows what else.
He COULD have known that something could have happened. However the point is that it SHOULD not have happened. I've flown with my guitar. Mine has always been fine. That's the way it should be. You should not be affraid to check in luggage because it "might" be damaged or stolen.
