Thanked: 369Several years ago my then 7 year old son went to turn on our heavy 27" television. Somehow the TV stand fell over and the 27" fell right on top of him. I was horrified - crushed ribs, ruptured organs, internal bleeding. Fortunately he was not injured. One of the very worst moments of my life contributing a little more silver to my head.
Parenthood is certainly one of the most joyful, harrowing, and challenging experiences in life.
Mark, I'm glad you and your daughter are OK.

Thank God you daughter is going be to alright Mark. Here is hoping for a speedy recovery.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

It's amazing how resilient children can be. I'm truly glad to hear she's getting better.

Thanked: 953Thank god you stopped immediately! Great to hear she is doing well and you are getting some peace of mind. I let my now five year old daughter, when she was four, hold the dog's leash at the top of our very high and long front staircase (brick), and the dog took off and dragged her forward. I (in a very manly high pitched screech) yelled "LET GO". Don't know if that helped or she just has instincts, but thankfully she let go and only fell onto the first landing (about three steps) and jumped up saying "I'm ok, only hurts a little bit." And thankfully my dog is a pug, not a labrador. My dad and I almost died from shock, as we both felt completely stupid and helpless and couldn't believe we'd let a four year old hold the leash at the top of the stairs. I spent the rest of the day wondering if I should have tried to dive after her, or somehow done something else. It's just terrifying being a parent - one moment of stupid and you jeopardize your kid. It amazes me that anyone survives childhood.
And I won't even get into my younger daughter's bleeding disorder (that thankfully ran it's one year course and is gone) where any bang to the head could be lethal if it caused internal bleeding. She ran into a steel doorjam and had a baseball sized ball of of blood over her eye (thankfully it swelled outside the skull and not inside). That was a year of fear.
And daily I gasp as my 8 month old tries to eat everything small and hard in the house.
And yet they seem to make it somehow! : )
Anyway, I'm really glad your situation worked out. I'm sure she'll remind you at some wedding speech or the like. LOL

A Father's Elation
My dear JMS,
I know I will have nightmares for the coming nights.
I have two daughters, alas grownup, and I can visualize your terror in seeing your daughter in that bloody state. There is nothing more terrifying than seeing your child injured.
Fortunately this is a story with a happy ending. I share that with you with all my heart.
Give your daughter an extra hug from me.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 1587Mark,
I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am to hear that you and your daughter are mending!
And I might add, if the only thing she takes from you and your good wife into her adulthood is an indomitable spirit like she is displaying now, she will be a force to be reckoned with when she is older.
