Happy and contented are similar but different imo.
Happy is (imo) when nothing could be better and you are feeling great.
Contented is (im) when you feel fine and are at peace with your situation, even though everything is not completely perfect.

Me, I am usually contented. I like / love my life, my work, my wife, my kids.
Yet I also feel a certain restlessness. I cannot just sit back and 'enjoy' what I have, I always feel the need to learn new things, find out more.

Restoring razors, learning computer languages, learning martial arts, and most recently, I have started learning Japanese. Until the day I die, I will probably always find new things to learn.

I think I mentioned this in my first post, but I think it's what drives you to new things that defines whether or not you can be content.

If you learn new things or buy new things because you HAVE to posses everything, that's different from wanting to better your self.

    Does that make sense?

No problems - I wasn't under the impression that you believed contentedness = not moving forward.

Btw - re semantics: It's ok for people to interpret words differently - that's all part of the language change process (though it does help if you're both clear on what you mean!) (For a start - I use a bathroom after the toilet and a restroom if I'm tired )

    All the best,
    Michael.

Doesn,t take much to make me contented, a roof that doesn,t leak, a warm bed, an open fire, three meals a day, basic transport and a job.

Every thing beyond those things makes me happy!
