Help me pick my 9mm
After a couple of years of research I have decided on a 9mm. A 9mm HydroShock will stop an individual as well as a 40 or 45 but without the kick and gaping wound cavity. I guess I should say that my objective is to incapacitate rather than kill. Its just easier on the karma. If I need to kill I have the option but incapacitate first.
Anyway here are the choices.
Glock 19
Springfield XD9
If you have pros and cons let me know.

I guess that my point is that 40 and 45 do more damage, have more penetration, and are just too much for me.
I live in an apartment and at least with a 9mm it may go through a wall, but not nearly as far as it would with a 40 or 45. I'd rather have the option of putting a third round downrange when the first 2 did not work.
Always keep searching for that bullet that works.

I think the XD-9 is a far better choice, but since they have different grip angles I would say you should check out both and see which one points more naturally. Hold eyes closed and point, open eyes.
If you have no intention of carrying; the Glock is a great choice.

I have the intention to carry and both fit real well. I have not tried the eyes closed thing but I will.
Why not carry a Glock? I know that they are huge and I have thought about a 1911 style 9mm for a single stack instead of the double stack.

Glock model 27 in .40S&W caliber.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 199Glock's are alright. Of the 2 you have listed, I think I would pick up the Glock.
When I have the means ($$) I intend to pick up the Sig 229 DAK (LINK)
Also, it's available in 9mm, 357SIG, and .40S&W, and holds 13 rds in 9mm, and 12 rds in 357/.40.
The DAK system is also REALLY nice as well. You might have already seen it, but if not, I would advise checking it out.Last edited by avatar1999; 10-05-2009 at 07:59 PM.

I'm a Glock fan but I'm also an odd cookie by liking the .357 Sig round. The Glock 32 would be the G19 equivalent and is a nice fit where as the 33 is too small.
Really, though, I'd worry more about carry style first. I used to carry a G31 easily concealed but I had a lot of advantages with my carry method. On the occasion I couldn't carry such a large frame I had to use something else that was more of a compromise like my Walther PPK in a pocket holster.
You might find that one suits you more than other based off of such factors. If you're looking only to have one firearm, finding the one that suits you in the most situations and is prefered the most is going to be tougher than just contemplating the pros and cons of stopping power.
A good revolver is always a nice choice too. I don't know why people don't like them so much. A Ruger SP101 or something like it in .357 Magnum (can always use .38s in it when you don't want to use the magnums) is another way to go.

I think you should go with a .44 Automag.

I have a Springfield XD 45, great weapon. In 9mm I have a Baretta 92FS which I highly recommend. I also have a Kel Tec for concealed carry. I friend of mine had the opportunity to use his 9mm. Four armed individuals attempted to break into his house. He had a 9mm, He shot two, and the other two ran off. He chased them, One of the guys he shot, got back up and shot him 2x. He was in the Hospital for months. He's lucky to be alive. One Bullett hit him in the abdomen, the other round in the face. He figures if he had a larger caliber, the one he hit, would not have got back up...
The thing is, and I'm talking from experience, You don't know how your going to react under those circumstances. When your heart is pounding, and your nervous, and your life depends on it, Will you be able to hit someone with a 9mm? The best home defense weapon is a shotgun, and it doesn't have to be a 12ga. Buckshot doesn't travel as far as a 9mm, or a 40, or a 45 for that matter. It has a nice spead, and the sound of a pump action shotgun chambering a round is enough to send anyone running...Just something to think about.
The nice thing about my Beretta is the 30rd mags....
There are lots of good PD rounds, TAP, Hydrashock, etc...I like the Winchester Ranger Police Rouds...
