I understand why people would be turned off. It's hollow. People want to take pride in something, but being recognized for having a lot of unexercised potential is hardly something to get excited about.

It's upsetting that they'd cheapen the award by giving it to someone that hasn't done anything, and deny it to people risking their lives to promote education and protection of girls in rural afghanistan, etc.

It also undermines and patronizes him.

I would turn your point around: how can you be happy that a historically important award has been cheapened, and that your president may have been weakened as people once again say "jeez he's just coasting on perception again - when are people going to hold him accountable for actually doing something." Good time magazine article on this by the way if you go to yahoo.

I bet Obama isn't pleased about this either.

Well here is exactly my point. Agree or disagree over whether he was the right choice, it still amazes me people are unhappy their president was honored with an award. Reminds me of the video showing the conservatives clapping their hands upon hearing the olympics weren't going to be held in the US--they'd rather their country lose than see those they politically oppose get recognized. Sad.

I don't think this is the case

People are unhappy that a formerly distinguished prize organization is trying to pull one over on them

It's true. I voted for Obama, and I support him. But I still don't feel he actually did anything to win the Nobel Peace Prize. I believe it is supposed to honor humanitarian effort, not mirror international approval.

What did he really do to get the award ? Honestly, I see this man being raised on a pedistool due solely to people disliking Bush Jr's 'work'.

I really dont think Obama has to do much to get accolades and kudos.

As far as I see it ... the country Obama presides over is still at war for crying out loud... so he is awarded a 'Peace' prize for .. what exactly...?

Sorry, but I cant be happy for someone with circumstances like this.

It's cheap and hollow. To me, there is nothing to be happy about.

Oh btw, those Republicans will clap about almost anything.

How can he get an award for what he is SUPPOSED to do in the future.

    That is total B.S!

I cheapens the award. All those that EARNED it did it for nothing now.

My views are Extreme, I think NOT.
