I am not excited about it but I don't knock it. It reminds me of a lyric circa 1968 from singer Gil Scott Heron...."A rat done bit my sister Nell and whitey's on the moon." If unemployment and foreclosures were not continuing to rise I might be more enthusiastic about this .... or I might not. Right now frankly I don't give a rat's a$$.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I'd go even further - we can't assume there's a cart to put before this horse. People are saying it's "premature," but it's not premature, it's simply not appropriate. If it turns out he earns it then give it to him then, but since when do we assume someone will earn the nobel peace prize?

And there were some people that REALLY deserved it, so it's totally shameful. It's not obama's fault - I bet he's ****ed, and not pouring champagne on himself in celebration.

well I'll agree 200% that there are more important things to worry about. there's not much to celebrate right now.

Willi Brandt got it in expectation to solve the east west conflict.
It was rather a burden than a blessing.
And so is it for Obama.
He got it for his intention to make the world nuclear weapon free.

What's that old saying? "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions"??

Now they're mixing awards into the mortar.

Sad.
Whether you like him or not, it's not an HONOR to receive something you in no way earned nor deserve, it's a JOKE.

Again, with the Olympics, do you REALLY think it is a good idea to have a MAJOR and extremely expensive event in a city that would in NO way be able to afford it on their own? The PEOPLE would have been the ones that would have had to fork out the money to pay for the Olympics in Chicago, and the people that were saying they didn't want it there, understood that.

Exactly the point. You can't give someone an award for what they may or may not do in the future.

It would be like giving a new college Freshman a PhD. because he plans on doing it...completely ridiculous.

"The deadline for nominations for the prize was Feb. 1 -- two weeks after Mr. Obama was inaugurated.

'So soon? Too early. He has no contribution so far,' former Polish President Lech Walesa, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983, said Friday. 'He is still at an early stage.'" - Wall Street Journal

Heck, even Adolf Hitler was nominated for it in 1939! Good JOB Nobel geniuses...

I can't recall the last time a city/country DIDN'T want to host the Olympics, particularly when they were a nominee. Nor do I recall any city/country suffering a net economic loss as a result of hosting the Olympics. Just the opposite-hosting the Olympics has, at least in modern times, been considered both an honor and a financial plus. (That is, unless you're so anti-Obama that you'd rather see your country lose than your political adversary prevail...)

Sorry like him or not if the award was deserved congrats but I don't believe it was. This country (and maybe now the world ) celebrates meritocracy rather than accomplishment. What ever happened to honoring a job well done. Ever see the movie "the Incredible's" Mr. Incredible echoed the same sentiment about Dash's 5th grade graduation.
