Thanked: 1501976 Winter Olympics. Colorado did not want it, and it went elswhere. Edit: Oh Yeah, and we were already selected to host, and not just a nominee, and we told the IOC to stuff it.
Colorado only state ever to turn down OlympicsLast edited by mhailey; 10-09-2009 at 08:10 PM.

Thanked: 1587The argument that the Nobel Peace Prize has been cheapened all of a sudden, and that is what people are worried about, just does not wash with me, or at least tells me that people either have a short memory or a selective one. Yasser Arafat in 1994 springs to mind. It has always been a strange award with strange choices of recipient IMO. But hey, if Gwynneth Paltrow can win a Best Actress Oscar, anything can happen.

Correct you are about Colorado. Of course, they were the only city to have ever done this. But those folks in the video shown clapping when it was announced the Olympics would be held in Rio rather than the US--probably not a bunch of Chicagoans concerned about the inconvenience of hosting. More likely they were right wing Republicans who, in the grand tradition of Rush Limbaugh-style unilateral patriotism, were hoping to see a Democratic president fail.

Thanked: 259nothing about this president is a shock to me anymore. i did not support him, but i have no ill will towards him. but really, tell me, a junior senator with NO legislative merits runs for the highest office in the country and wins, then wins this prize. this type of award used to be for people who had accomplished something for the good of mankind. what has he done or will ever do to merit this?

How can he get an award for what he is SUPPOSED to do in the future.
That is total B.S!
I cheapens the award. All those that EARNED it did it for nothing now.
My views are Extreme, I think NOT.

Thanked: 13246From one of my Righty Friends !!!!
I would like to congratulate President Barack Obama on being given the Nobel Peace Price. This is a momentous occasion in the fact that the President has made such glorious promises that his intentions alone have earned him this award. I for one, in the hopes of making the world a better place, will match President Obama's intentions by increasing my own good intentions.
In my tireless effort to create world peace, I will turn any and all bad people into teddy bears and warm blankets and all mean or vicious animals into puppies and kittens. I will transform all nuclear waste into honey and milk and I will make all bullets and firearms turn into cake and ice cream.
Where is my prize????
