Sad.
There is a difference. For the olympics it is indeed a bit childish (though the olympics cost a ton of money so that may have been a factor). For the nobel prize, there is nothing he did to deserve it imo.

Granted, he did no start a war and he has extended diplomatic talks to countries like Iran. And that is very much a positive thing. Bu it is nothing that other countries don't do already. It's like being awarded for not beating your wife. You're supposed to not beat your wife. You don't get credit for it.

Nah, too used to getting worshipping applause from desperate liberals to even remember when he deserves something and when he doesn't.
That would have been a true sign of greatness imo, all the more because it is actually true, and he wants to EARN it.

i do not know if some of you know this, i just found out a couple of days ago. obama was only in office 12 days when the nobel prize committee voted to award this to him...this sounds too great to believe, he did not even know where the all the bathrooms were in the white house, but he won the award

I don't know if it is true, and I am highly skeptical about it. What evidence do you have to support this claim?

It is true (kind of). The nomination deadline is Feburary 1 of each year (or the envelope containing the nomination must be postmarked no later than Feburary 1 of that year). Process of Nomination and Selection from the Nobel site itself.

Obama took office on January 20, 2009, and the nomination deadline was Feburary 1, 2009.

He was not chosen only 12 days after taking office, but his nomination was entered 12 days after taking office.

Isn't it ironic that Norway, a home of the Vikings, awards the big peace award. Maybe there is an irony here that we are missing........and all these vikings in valhalla with odin are laughing at this silly peace award they give out for a bunch of laughs, and how funny it is that all these international girlie men care about it.

Is there nothing anybody takes pride in anymore?

    Hi -
I was under the impression that the cut-off for nomination occurred 12 days after Obama was elected, but that the committee's evaluation of his performance was based on a longer time scale (couldn't have been really long, though!).

    Is this correct?
    Thanks,
    Shuka

I'm under the impression that he was a shoo-in for the peace prize based on his campaign promises long before the election
