I don't buy it. Sorry. This is a State's rights issue, and the federal government has no right to be passing this legislation. I remember just recently that the Federal Government made it illegal to carry a firearm within X number of feet/yards (meters for you metric people) of a school. seemingly sensible legislation, but it was struck down as unconstitutional and beyond the authority of the Federal Government to legislate/regulate. It was a state's right issue.

I can carry a loaded handgun without any issues, but if I have a switchblade, then I'm committing a crime. Ridiculous.

How is a switchblade faster than this?

Oh, wait, lets just ban those too, as well as suspend an Eagle Scout from school for 20 days, when he had a 2 inch pocket knife in his locked car, as part of a survival kit.

Pretty soon, we will all just be saying "Please sir, may I have some more?" Except the "Sir" will be Mr. Obama.
Thats pretty good. It reminds me of the old debate of given two highly skilled people who can draw and fire a weapon faster. A guy with a double action revolver or a guy with a single.

Just think how much practice is required to do that stuff. I worked for the INS and met Jordan a few times.

You guys know what's faster than a spyderco and a switchblade, yet totally legal?

Just try walking into a bank with a Bowie knife hanging from your belt in plain view and see what happens.

Here in San Diego county I can do just that legally but if I carry a two inch fixed blade in my pocket it is considered a concealed weapon and I would find myself in the slammer.

No knife is more dangerous than any other knife. It's all in people's heads. Someone practised with a certain type of knife can ALWAYS be dangerous. However he should not be convicted for this untill he's done something illegale with it.

There's a terrible tragedy in society's thinking at the moment that says you can punish someone for what someone else has done wrong even though an individual has done nothing wrong.

In my opinion people should be free to do what they like as long as they're not harming other people with it. I don't care if someone wishes to carry around a whopping 2 handed razorsharp sword. As long as he's not trying to chop someone in half with it he should be free to do so.

And just on that principle (and because it's plain cool) I ordered a Zero Tolerance 302 knife today. (Besides....it's legal I think)
