Post office woes
Today I got a notice from the post office that something came for me but I need to sign for it. Right away, I hate that. I live on the second floor of a house (the first floor is one apartment and the second is another apartment) and my doorbell doesn't work. I never ever hear my mailman come by. This means I always have to pick up stuff that needs to be signed for. They don't even take packages to the post office nearest me...
The slip said that I could pick up my package today (Saturday) at 3 pm. The thing is, the post office closes at 2 pm on Saturdays. Why do they do that? Are they trying to torture me? Now I have to wait till Monday. Grrrr

That sucks!
The post office in my town (Carmel, NY) sucks donkey balls and when the mail man comes I can see him front my front window. He'll drop off mail into my box and then drive away.
So I will go about my business at home and then retrieve my mail as soon as I Can.
Next thing I see is a notice in my mail box saying that I wasn't home to accept a package and now I have to go get it because it was his "Final Attempt" for a delivery and the package will soon be returned. The time on the slip usually is ALWAYS post timed also (For example it'll say he came at 2pm when I saw him through the window at 11AM).
I've also had numerous things come in the mail opened and emptied, wtf? It's also annoying when all your neighbors in town give you your mail days later because the mail man in the area, for the past 30 years keep in mind, doesn't know the house numbers yet.
I think a lot of the times they don't even take their asses out of the mail truck to see if anyone is home to sign for things.

call the PO to see if they have a will call window. The PO near me has longer hours at the will call window for package pick-ups.

Thanked: 151This happens to me always because I live on the ground floor and the mail boxes are upstairs. Its a pain and I had to call 7 post offices to find a package that I had to sign for.
I feel your pain.

Get your doorbell fixed.
I'm always startled when I find packages with very expensive contents just left on my front porch. I mean, fortunately I live in Canada where there is no crime, but man. It's still freaky.

they torture you because they are the post office and they can.
Just so you are aware the post office is run by the like minded people and same general principles as those that brought you such wonderful things as...
The DMV
Taxes
Meter maids
Marriage
10 hot dogs in a pack / 8 hot dog buns in a pack
torturing of random civilians with nonsense (e.g. holli4pirating)
Well, you get what I mean.

try to get the local post office number - it's hard, but it's possible. they've changed the old ones and the people at the 800 one generally refuse to give the local ones out.
i don't remember how i got mine, but it's a lifesaver. i always call them to send the package to the closest branch and even though making the business hours and waiting in line sucks, not going out of town is one less thing to suck.
a couple of weeks ago i saw the clerk at my closest branch give to a customer the number of the main office, may be if you go to them and explain politely the situation they'll be nice and give it to you.

USPS.com has a directory tab with address and phone information.
Here's the link , when you click the specific location you want (after the search) it will give you the local number, hours, etc.

Its the same over here TBH. The only reason I dont have to go and pick up every little thing I order is because I have nice neighbours!
They do the same thing with the "sorry you were out" notices as well. In fact, one guy was caught out when someone opened the door as he was filling out the slip. The guy asked him for the package and the postie sheepishly admitted that he didnt actually have it, he just had a wad of the notices to post through letterboxes! He'd left all the packages at the depot rather than carry them around, and was just giving the notices to everyone, regardless of whether they were in or not!
Our lot were on strike recently as well.... Dont even get me started on that!
