Do you mean just observe the events or actually go back and be there in the flesh? If that's the case I would think its a very bad idea. If you went back and interacted with the residents of that time in the seemingly most insignificant of ways it could cause repercussions that could drastically alter time and cause a time paradox.

I suppose you could go forward in time first to learn and understand the perfect laws of the universe and how everything works then go back to the big bang or whisper in God's ear or whatever need be and make the necessary adjustments to avoid the problem of time paradoxes, and any other problem you didn't want to have for that matter

I would go back to the 1920's and 30's, the golden years of aviation and stay there. Imagine being a pilot back then when it actually was a dangerous and exiting job.
I am not complaining about my job, but it would be even better back then.
