He was in La Marque, Texas according to the byline in the article you linked. Here in Florida we just run into the pelicans. They are no longer on the endangered species list.
Edit; for any bleeding hearts .... I'm only kidding, I love pelicans and would drive off a cliff rather than harm a feather on their lovable heads.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Damn...my reading comprehension really has been awful lately. I need to start paying attention before I write! I guess I was thinking of my granfather. Weatlhy and old, legally blind (white cane and all!) got pulled over DRIVING HOME from his lighthouse (organization for the blind). Handed the cop his license, and his vision was so bad that he didn't even know that my father had taped a note to it, asking for professional courtesy (ex LEO) to get him home safe and call my dad.
But would you drive into a marsh in your Bugatti? Because if I was in that car, I think I might drive through a flock of spotted owls, over the last Dodo, and crush a Komodo dragon or two before swerving. And I AM a bleeding heart...but I'm also a car nut.Last edited by smokelaw1; 11-13-2009 at 02:44 PM.

What a plum.
The fact that he ended up 20ft away from the road does suggest to me that it was the guy driving like a berk rather than some sort of pelican related incident!
Lets face it, if you were driving sensibly you'd probably have been able to stop safely with the brakes on a car like that, not end up in a lake!

Three in ten drivers on American roads should be stripped off their driving licenses and he is obviously one of them.

I would bet there was no pelican and the guy was texting.
