If there's water there, we can shave there!
I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

As the moon has no atmosphere water will slowly disappear into the universe. Only if aquifers exist on moon will colonisation be feasable.

So they found 100 l, but how much do they think is there? In order for this to be useful for a moon base there would have to be a truly significant amount up there. For even a small base there would need to be at least 100 times that amount, likely even more.

Thanked: 234Even if their was enough water, does not mean we should use it.
We shouldn't. at all. ever.

I think he's saying that the supply on the moon may not be able to replenish itself.

If we look after the earth's resources a bit better we needn't spend billions of $$ on the little water the moon has.
The moon is no more than a distant a desert without an atmosphere. Its waters will never be replenished.Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.

Thanked: 234I just think that exploiting finite reserves is never a good idea.
More over, we do not, and never will fully understand the implications if we remove that water until we've done it.
I'm against the idea on principle very strongly within my self and that is my best explanation of why. It seems patently obvious to me that it's just a rubbish idea.

Couldn't agree more.
Not sure about this. What do you think the implications might be? Further, are they actually going to be taking the water off the moon's surface to another place - or just using it on the surface.
Who knows, maybe the whole thing will implode and then throw the earth into chaos.I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

The idea is not to go there and get water to bring down here. The idea would be to avoid having to spend even more money to ship water up there. They want to consider setting up a base which would be an ideal vantage point on the solar system for observation and exploratory missions.
If there were an ecosystem up there I could see the value in what you're saying, but the moon's water supports no such ecosystem unless we bring it with us.
