It's good that you stated the intent or goal of the thread so specifically, the focus has seemed to turn towards political or phylosophical groups like communism. I don't even know that discrediting or bringing to an end Christianity is a specific goal or intent of communism though, it is more like an incidental 'benifit' brought about by attrition through the progressive control and oppression of the people under Communism, but if so then like I think BillyJeff pointed out it didn't even work out under Marx's biggest 'success' either. I do somewhat digress that 'discrediting' the Bible is a specific goal of Communism but not specifically bringing Christianity to an end. One of the main tenants of Russian communism was the extinction of religion. It was illegal to be Christian and to worship God in communist Russia. The communist party actually had gangs of soldiers, basically swat teams on call to break up prayer meetings and arrest all those present, if they lived through the violent break-up of the meeting. These soldiers were taught that Christians were the enemy's of the state and deserving of death.
You may have an air tight case here Mark. Could be that the only groups with such a goal are religious in nature.
And to elaborate on a comment made earlier, for those of you who may not know or those who just may have never heard or noticed, or don't want to think that it is true, there is an old saying in Christianity referring in part to the fact that in the Bible a Christian is identified as a soldier (and I would say that sadly that is not what most people think of when they think of Christians) and an 'army' in Revelation 19:19, told to 'Put on the whole armour of God' and to 'endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ', but the old saying is this - "The Lord's army is the only army that shoots it's own wounded."
