One of the main tenants of Russian communism was the extinction of religion. It was illegal to be Christian and to worship God in communist Russia. The communist party actually had gangs of soldiers, basically swat teams on call to break up prayer meetings and arrest all those present, if they lived through the violent break-up of the meeting. These soldiers were taught that Christians were the enemy's of the state and deserving of death.
