It looks like I am going to remain stay-at-home-dad for this year so my goal is to make Little Man's third year a stimulating and happy one. If Validator gets a new job which looks imminent then our goal will be to conquer our financial difficulties whereas they have been to 'remain afloat' until now. Both looking attainable.

I found Moby Dick quite doable once I accepted that most of the book is about slaughtering whales until you finally get to murdering one. Immerse yourself in the whale guts long and deep enough and you'll come out the other end as I did sure as there's a gold coin nailed to that mast.

GOOD FOR YOU. YOU CAN DO IT!
    1. Drink lots of water for the next few days and it'll curb your cravings.
    2. Getting even just a little exercise will help you feel less stressed about withdrawal.
    3. Find a healthy substitute to keep you busy.
    4. If you're feeling the pinch, before you take another drag, call a friend for support. PM me for my number and I'll be happy to be a shoulder for you to lean on. Once the first week is over the physical withdrawal is done and it's all just psychological.

    Wink

Gotta have choices: for me it's either retire in the spring or stick it out another coupla years. In all likelihood the plug will get pulled this year. With having to do more and more with less and less, the bear on the back is getting to be heavier than is fun to carry around. Then again, I'm told that these challenges are neither imposed as a sadistic thrill by my employer, nor should I look upon them with masochistic glee; just get the work done - now.

It's getting to be that there just ain't enough ...fun

and y'all have a Happy New Year too

Some worthy goals here for sure.

As for me, besides several things I want to accomplish at work, a few of my more important personal goals are:

--Get into a regular exercise routine, 3 or 4 times a week

--The same with practicing the fiddle, and start getting together with a couple of friends who have expressed an interest in playing the kind of music I'm exploring (jazz and Great American Songbook tunes)

--Get back to writing and sending work out regularly

--Maybe look into ways of getting some of my songs out into the world--I have an offer of studio time for a demo CD if I can ever get my piano playing together or find somebody to accompany; and maybe figure out how to post some choral scores on a website with a Creative Commons license, since I'm not with a choir these days ...

--Get cracking on the Latin and Gaelic already and get up to first-year proficiency at least; and polish up my Russian and Spanish

--Do something every day to develop courage. That may sound a tad presumptuous, if not pretentious or just insane ... but it may be the most important of all in the long run.

    ~Rich
